Shiffrin Headlines Last World Cup Stop Before Alpine Skiing World Championships Begin Next Week in Are, Sweden

NBC Sports’ 25+ Hours of World Freestyle Skiing & Snowboarding Championships Coverage Begins Friday, Feb. 1, on NBCSN, NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports App & NBC Sports Gold’s “Snow Pass”

STAMFORD, Conn. – January 30, 2019 – Two-time Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin continues her record-setting alpine skiing World Cup season this weekend in Maribor, Slovenia at the final stop before World Championships, highlighting Olympic sports coverage this week across NBC Sports. Live TV coverage begins this Friday, Feb. 1, at 7 a.m. ET with the giant slalom on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.

Shiffrin has won twice before in Slovenia and holds 11 World Cup wins so far this season, standing three shy of the single-season record that has been held by Vreni Schneider for 30 years. The men’s circuit will head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, this weekend. Olympians Bryce Bennett and Travis Ganong are expected to lead the Americans in Saturday’s downhill race, while Olympic champion Ted Ligety and two-time Olympian Tommy Ford should headline Team USA in Sunday’s giant slalom.

Live coverage begins from Maribor on Friday, Feb. 1, at 4 a.m. ET with the women’s giant slalom, on NBC Sports Gold’s “Snow Pass.”

“Snow Pass” gives fans access to live and on-demand domestic and international competitions of seven Olympic winter sports through April 2019, including all events of the World Freestyle Skiing & Snowboarding Championships through next Sunday, Feb. 10.

2018 Olympic halfpipe gold medalist Chloe Kim highlights more than 25 hours of NBC Sports coverage of the World Freestyle Skiing & Snowboarding Championships in Utah, this week, starting Friday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. ET on NBCSN, NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app, and NBC Sports Gold’s “Snow Pass.”

The World Freestyle Skiing & Snowboarding Championships will be the biggest winter sports event to be held in Utah since the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Kim leads a deep field of decorated U.S. Olympians, including two-time gold medalists David Wise and Jamie Anderson, 2018 gold medalist Red Gerard, 2018 silver medalist Alex Ferreira, four-time Olympian Lindsey Jacobellis, two-time medalist Nick Goepper, and 2014 gold medalist Maddie Bowman.

U.S. FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS – DETROIT, MICHIGAN

COVERAGE CONTINUES THIS WEEK ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA will replay all programs this week from the U.S. Figure Skating Champions in Detroit. The event served as the qualifying event for the Four Continents Championships and World Championships in February and March.

CURLING WORLD CUP – JONKOPING, SWEDEN

LIVE COVERAGE CONTINUES TOMORROW, THURS., JAN. 31 AT 10 A.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

The Curling World Cup, a new four-legged international curling series, continues with the third event in Jonkoping, Sweden this week. Eight nations compete in each discipline at the first three stops as they bid for a spot at the Grand Final in May. The brother and sister team of Matt and Becca Hamilton, who competed together at the PyeongChang Olympics, will take part in the mixed doubles tournament.

WORLD CUP SPEED SKATING – HAMAR, NORWAY

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS FRIDAY, FEB. 1 AT 9 A.M. ET ON NBC SPORTS GOLD

World Cup Speed Skating resumes in Hamar, Norway, for the penultimate World Cup event of the season and the final competition before the world championships. 2018 Olympic team pursuit bronze medalist Brittany Bowe currently leads the World Cup standings in the 1000m and has 10 podium finishes so far this season. Two-time Olympian Joey Mantia is expected to lead the American men.

WORLD CUP SHORT TRACK – DRESDEN, GERMANY

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS SATURDAY, FEB. 2 AT 8:50 A.M. ET ON NBC SPORTS GOLD

PyeongChang Olympian Maame Biney headlines the U.S. short track team heading into the final two World Cup events of the season before March’s World Championships. She will be joined by her Olympic teammates Aaron Tran and Thomas Hong.

TV coverage starts Saturday, Feb. 2 at 10:30 p.m. ET and continues Sunday, Feb. 3 at 11:30 p.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home Of Team USA.

LUGE WORLD CUP – ALTENBERG, GERMANY

TV COVERAGE BEGINS SATURDAY, FEB. 2 AT 2 P.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

The luge World Cup season continues in Altenberg, Germany this week, and two-time Olympian Summer Britcher currently leads the Americans in third in the World Cup standings this season. 2018 Olympic singles silver medalist Chris Mazdzer is sixth in doubles with two-time Olympian Jayson Terdiman, while also competing in singles as well. The lugers are coming off the World Championships, where American Emily Sweeney won a bronze medal, the second straight U.S. women’s medal at the World Championships.

SKI JUMPING WORLD CUP – OBERSTDORF, GERMANY

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS FRIDAY, FEB. 1 AT 10 A.M. ET ON NBC SPORTS GOLD

The ski jumping season continues with men’s World Cup ski flying competitions in Oberstdorf, Germany. In ski flying, hills are constructed differently so that jumps can be significantly further in distance than traditional ski jumping. Saturday’s and Sunday’s events will take place under the lights as night competitions.

TV coverage begins Friday, February 1 at 6:30 p.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA. In addition to TV coverage, all races will be available live on NBC Sports Gold, OlympicChannel.com and the Olympic Channel app.

ISTAF INDOOR – BERLIN, GERMANY

TV COVERAGE BEGINS FRIDAY, FEB. 1 AT 8 P.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

2016 Olympic pole vault bronze medalist Sam Kendricks is expected to lead the Americans at the ISTAF Indoor meet in Berlin, Germany. The competition will feature several traditional field events, men’s and women’s 60m hurdles, and a new team discus event.
CYCLO-CROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – BOGENSE, DENMARK

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS SATURDAY, FEB. 2 AT 9 A.M. ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA & NBC SPORTS GOLD

The Cyclo-Cross season concludes with the World Championships in Bogense, Denmark this weekend. Cyclo-Cross, a non-Olympic discipline, combines cycling, steeplechase and NASCAR all into one, with athletes racing around a circuit course with steep hills, difficult descents, mud, grass, sand and dirt. Kaitlin Keough is the U.S. women’s top medal hope.

Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA presents live coverage of the women’s race on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. and coverage of the men’s race on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. ET.
