NO. 6 RAMS (10-7) AT NO. 3 LIONS (12-5) SUNDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBC, PEACOCK AND UNIVERSO; FNIA BEGINS AT 7:30 P.M. ET

Detroit won the NFC North for the first time 1993 and will host its first home playoff game since that season. Jared Goff, who was traded from the Rams to the Lions in the 2021 offseason, finished second in the NFL in passing yards (4,575) and fourth in touchdown passes (30). Detroit had a prolific offense this season, becoming only the second team in NFL history with four players with at least 10 touchdowns from scrimmage – RB David Montgomery (13),rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs (11), rookie Pro Bowl tight end Sam LaPorta (10), and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (10) – while Gibbs and LaPorta became the first pair of rookie teammates to each have 10 touchdowns from scrimmage. LaPorta also broke the record for most receptions by a rookie tight end (86) and became only the third rookie tight end in NFL history with at least 10 touchdown receptions, joining Mika Ditka (1961) and Rob Gronkowski (2010).

After missing the playoffs last season, the Rams are back in the postseason after winning the Super Bowl two years ago. Matthew Stafford, who played the first 12 seasons of his career with the Lions and is the franchise leader in passing yards and touchdown passes, returns to Detroit for the first time after being traded to the Rams in the 2021 offseason and leading the team to the Super Bowl title. The Rams’ offense is highlighted by WR Puka Nacua who this season set NFL rookie records for most receiving yards (1,486) and receptions (105), Super Bowl LVI MVP Cooper Kupp and rookie running back Kyren Williams, who finished in the NFL’s top 10 in rushing yards (1,144) and rushing touchdowns (12) this season.

The Rams hold a 45-41-1 advantage in the all-time series. This will be the first postseason matchup between the two franchises since the 1952 National Conference championship which Detroit won, 31-21, en route to the team’s second NFL Championship.
