Southern and Grambling State Renew Rivalry in Traditional Thanksgiving Weekend Matchup from Caesars Superdome in New Orleans

Award-Winning Musician and Actor Common Voices Show Open Celebrating 50th Bayou Classic

NBCU Academy – a Journalism Training and Development Program – to Offer HBCU Students Professional Development Opportunities and Hands-on Media Experience

STAMFORD, Conn. – Nov. 21, 2023 – The 50th annual Bayou Classic between Southern and Grambling State takes place this Saturday, November 25 at 2 p.m. ET live on NBC and Peacock from Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, La.

In last season’s meeting, Southern topped Grambling, 34-17, to retake the Bayou Classic all-time series lead, leading 25-24 since the series began in 1974.

Southern (5-5) and Grambling (5-5) are tied for third place in the SWAC West this season.

Halftime of Saturday’s game will include a presentation of the Battle of the Bands, the celebrated tradition between the Southern and Grambling State marching bands.

NBC Sports’ Chris Lewis will handle play-by-play, and will be joined by analyst Anthony Herron and reporters Lewis Johnson and Corey Robinson.

Award-winning musician and actor Common voices Saturday’s show open, celebrating the 50th annual Bayou Classic and its history, pageantry, and tradition. Featured in the open are Grambling State alumni Doug Williams and Hue Jackson, Southern alumni Al Barron, Eric Randall and Chris Scott, as well as current players including Southern senior punter Robens Beauplan and Grambling senior defensive lineman Sundiata Anderson. Southern and Grambling State will participate in professional development programming through NBCU Academy – a journalism training and development program designed to prepare college students and young professionals for careers in the news and media technology industry. Additionally, NBC Sports will present select journalism students from both Southern and Grambling the opportunity to cover the event for NBCSports.com.

Students at Southern and Grambling State also have access to NBC Sports’ Black Employee Network (BEN), which seeks to foster and grow a strong Black employee base throughout NBCUniversal.
