PATRICK MAHOMES AND CHIEFS HOST TREVOR LAWRENCE AND JAGUARS IN AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF GAME THIS SATURDAY AT 4:30 P.M. ET ON NBC, PEACOCK AND UNIVERSO

Special On-Site Edition of Football Night in America Kicks Off at 3 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock with Full Studio Team at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium

STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 18, 2023 – Super Bowl LIV Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs host 2021 No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional Playoffs from GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., this Saturday, Jan. 21, at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC, Peacock, and Universo. Coverage begins with a special on-site edition of Football Night in America at 3 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, with the full studio team at Arrowhead.

The Chiefs (14-3) are the AFC’s top seed, winning the AFC West and earning a first-round bye. The AFC South champion Jaguars (10-8) advanced to the Divisional Playoff with the third-largest comeback (27 points) in NFL Playoff history with a thrilling 31-30 victory over the Chargers last Saturday.

The teams met in Week 10, with Kansas City topping Jacksonville, 27-17, at Arrowhead. Mahomes passed for 331 yards and four touchdowns in the win, while Lawrence passed for 259 yards and two touchdowns in his first career game in Kansas City. Since that matchup, the Jaguars have won seven of eight games.

Saturday’s game marks the first postseason meeting between the franchises. This will be Kansas City’s twelfth postseason game since Mahomes took over as starting quarterback in the 2018 season, and Jacksonville’s first time advancing beyond the first round of the postseason since the 2017season.

The Chiefs had a prolific season offensively, leading the league in total yards (7,032) and yards per game (413.6). Mahomes, who earned his second career AP First Team All-Pro selection this year, led the league in passing yards (5,250), touchdowns (41), and passing yards per game (308.8). Tight end Travis Kelce, earning his fourth career AP First Team All-Pro selection, led all NFL tight ends in receiving yards (1,338) and touchdown receptions (12), en route to his seventh consecutive season with 1,000+ receiving yards. Kansas City ended the season on a five-game winning streak that saw Jerick McKinnon earn his first career AFC Offensive Player of the Month award during that stretch, becoming the first running back since 1970 with a touchdown reception in at least five consecutive games (six).

In the Wild Card victory over the Chargers, Lawrence, in his first career Playoff game, threw for 288 yards and four touchdowns, as the Jaguars won their first Playoff game since 2018. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. had 121 total yards (109 rushing, 12 receiving), while tight end Evan Engram and wide receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones all recorded 70+ receiving yards and a touchdown.

Mike Tirico will call Jaguars-Chiefs with 17-time Emmy Award winner Cris Collinsworth (analyst) and Melissa Stark (sideline reporter). Three-time Super Bowl referee Terry McAulay will serve as rules analyst.

NBC Sports’ coverage on Saturday is led by coordinating producer Rob Hyland and director Drew Esocoff.

Football Night in America features host Maria Taylor, Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy, former NFL head coach of the Cowboys Jason Garrett, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, NFL Insider Mike Florio, fantasy sports industry pioneer Matthew Berry, co-host Jac Collinsworth and two-time Super Bowl champion Rodney Harrison, all of whom will be on-site at Arrowhead.
