STAMFORD, Conn. – Nov. 16, 2022 – NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2022-23 figure skating season continues this weekend with 2022 Grand Prix Japan, the fifth event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, beginning tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 p.m. ET live exclusively on Peacock from Makomanai Ice Arena in Sapporo, Japan. The entire competition, including every skater in every discipline, can be streamed live on Peacock.

The U.S. field traveling to Sapporo is highlighted by the ice dance team of Madison Chock and Evan Bates, the Beijing Olympic duo who won the gold medal at 2022 Skate America in October. Competing together since 2011, the prolific partners have won one Olympic medal and three World Championship medals in their nearly-12-year tenure together. Other notable Americans expected to compete include Starr Andrews and Amber Glenn in the women’s field. Andrews recently became the first Black woman from the United States to medal in a singles event in the Grand Prix era with her silver medal performance at 2022 Skate Canada, and Glenn won her first career Grand Prix medal in October – a bronze. Both women have a chance to qualify for the Grand Prix Final in December.

The U.S. is set to compete against a strong international contingent led by three-time Olympic medalist and reigning world champion Shoma Uno (Japan) in the men’s event and two-time 2022 Olympic medalist and reigning world champion Kaori Sakamoto (Japan) in the women’s event. Both skaters have won Grand Prix events this fall and look to continue their strong seasons this weekend. Other international Olympians expected to compete in Sapporo include Cha Jun-Hwan (South Korea), Adam Siao Him Fa (France), and Kim Ye-Lim (South Korea).

An encore highlights presentation of 2022 Grand Prix Japan will air on NBC on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 4 p.m. ET. Andrea Joyce will handle play-by-play while 1998 Nagano Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski and three-time U.S. champion Johnny Weir will serve as analysts for Sunday’s show on NBC.

NBC Sports and U.S. Figure Skating recently announced the schedule for the 2022-23 figure skating season, featuring more than 200 hours of coverage from October to April, including the 2023 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the ISU World Figure Skating Championships.
