STAMFORD, Conn. – Sept. 8, 2022 – Reigning 1500m world champion Jake Wightman, 2017 steeplechase world champion Emma Coburn, Tokyo Olympic 1500m bronze medalist Josh Kerr, and 2021 U.S. 1500m champion Cole Hocker headline NBC Sports’ live coverage of the 2022 New Balance Fifth Avenue Mile this Sunday, Sept. 11, at Noon E.T on NBC and Peacock.

The race – in its 41st year – stretches 20 blocks on 5th Avenue in New York City, starting at 80th street and finishing at 60th street. The women’s field is led by defending champion Jemma Reekie (Great Britain), 2022 world 1500m bronze medalist Laura Muir (Great Britain), Tokyo Olympic 1500m finalist Cory McGee, and Coburn. Reekie looks to repeat as champion in the absence of 2016 Rio Olympic 1500m bronze medalist Jenny Simpson, who won the race a record seven years in a row from 2013 to 2019.

The men’s field is led by Wightman (Great Britain), Kerr (Great Britain), Hocker, and Tokyo Olympian Jye Edwards (Australia). Wightman is coming off a breakout season that saw him win the world title in the 1500m, the European silver medal in the 800m, and Commonwealth Games bronze in the 1500m. A two-time winner of the 5th Avenue Mile, Wightman looks to become the first man to win in back-to-back years since Isaac Viciosa (Spain) won the iconic race four years in a row (1995-1998). The U.S. contingent in the men’s race is highlighted by 2019 U.S. 1500m champion Craig Engels.

NBC Sports’ Paul Swangard will call the event, joined by two-time Olympian Kara Goucher and reporter Lewis Johnson.
