STAMFORD, Conn. – August 4, 2022 – The 2022-23 Premier League season kicks off tomorrow across the platforms of NBCUniversal, marking NBC Sports’ 10th year as the exclusive U.S. media home of the Premier League, as three newly-promoted clubs – Fulham, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest – are in action this weekend.

Nottingham Forest, the historic club founded in 1865, are back in the Premier League following a 23-season absence, the longest gap ever between two PL campaigns.

Following is a profile of Nottingham Forest heading into the 2022-23 Premier League season:

First match: Saturday, August 6 – Newcastle v. Nottingham Forest at 10 a.m. ET on Peacock

Nottingham Forest return to the Premier League for the first time since 1998-99 after finishing fourth in the Championship last year and earning promotion via the Play-Offs, topping Huddersfield Town, 1-0, in the Play-Off Final.

Founded in 1865, Nottingham Forest are one of the oldest clubs in England and were one of the Premier League’s founding 22 members. The club’s highest finish in the Premier League was third place in 1994-95 and they have won one top-flight title (1977-78). Forest are one of four English clubs (Liverpool, Manchester United & Chelsea) to have won multiple European Cups/Champions League titles (two, 1979 and 1980).

After beginning last season winless in their first seven Championship matches, Nottingham Forest appointed head coach Steve Cooper on Sept. 21, 2021, and went on to total 76 points under Cooper, the most in the Championship during that span.

Twenty-one-year-old Forest forward Brennan Johnson led the club with 18 goals and 10 assists last season and was named the 2021-22 Championship Young Player of the Season.

Based in Nottingham, the club plays at The City Ground, which has been located on the banks of the River Trent for 124 years.
