Seven Hours of Live Primetime Coverage Across Four Weekend Nights to Air on NBC Broadcast Network

Extensive Streaming Coverage Across Peacock During 10-Day Event

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 11, 2022 – The World Track & Field Championships Oregon22 begin this Friday, July 15, from the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field and will be presented across numerous networks and platforms of NBCUniversal. It will be the first time the outdoor World Championships will be held in the U.S. and NBC Sports will utilize NBC, Peacock, USA Network, CNBC, and NBC Sports digital platforms to provide comprehensive coverage.

In total, NBC Sports will present 43 hours of television programming, including four nights of live primetime weekend coverage (July 16-17, July 23-24) on the NBC broadcast network, plus extensive streaming coverage throughout the 10-day championship meet, which concludes on Sunday, July 24.

The world’s biggest track & field athletes will participate in the meet, which is expected to feature 37 defending world champions and 37 U.S. Olympic medalists. Headlining the American contingent in Eugene is the most decorated track & field athlete in World Championships history Allyson Felix, Tokyo Olympic 400m hurdles gold medalist and current world record holder Sydney McLaughlin, defending 200m world champion and Tokyo Olympic 200m bronze medalist Noah Lyles, Tokyo Olympic 100m silver medalist Fred Kerley, and 200m under-20 world record holder Erriyon Knighton, among a host of other Olympians.

NBC BROADCAST NETWORK

NBC Sports will present a record seven primetime hours of World Championships coverage during four weekend nights on NBC, with live coverage totaling 12.5 hours including afternoon broadcasts.

On Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17, the fastest runners on the planet will face off in the men’s (July 16) and women’s (July 17) 100m final live on NBC, which is expected to feature Americans Fred Kerley, Trayvon Bromell, and defending 100m world champion Christian Coleman for the men as well as Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica on the women’s side.

NBC will also air the men’s shot put final live on Sunday, July 17. Americans Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs have won the past two Olympic gold and silver medals, respectively.

During the second weekend of competition, multiple relays including the men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m, will be presented live on NBC. At the previous World Championships in 2019, Noah Lyles anchored the U.S. to a world title in the 4x100m. On Sunday, July 24, the women’s 800m final will be presented live on NBC. The American trio of Tokyo Olympic champion Athing Mu, Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Raevyn Rogers, and 2019 bronze medalist Ajee Wilson are all threats to medal.

NOTE: Primetime coverage on NBC will be shown in pattern, meaning live ET/CT and on delay PT/MT, with some exceptions. Check local listings. Coverage will stream live across the country on Peacock.

PEACOCK

Peacock will stream all competition sessions from Eugene, including exclusive live primetime coverage on Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19.

Peacock will present exclusive live coverage of the women’s 1500m, heptathlon, men’s high jump and women’s triple jump (July 18) as well as the men’s 400m hurdles, which is expected to feature a showdown between Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Karsten Warholm of Norway and Tokyo Olympic silver medalist American Rai Benjamin, and the men’s 1500m (July 19).

Peacock will simulstream all live coverage on NBC. In order to provide coverage of all sessions throughout the World Championships, Peacock will utilize world feed commentary of select competition. Full simulstreaming of NBC, USA Network and CNBC programming will be available on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app via authentication.

USA NETWORK AND CNBC

USA Network will provide coverage primarily for competition sessions during weekdays in primetime, while CNBC will have programming windows during both weekends of the meet. In total, USA Network and CNBC will present more than 30 hours of World Championships coverage, including nearly 20 primetime hours.

Highlights of USA Network’s coverage include the mixed 4x400m relay -- where 13-time world champion Allyson Felix is in the relay pool for the U.S. Felix was part of the squad that won this event in 2019, the first time it was ever contested at a World Championships (July 15) -- the men’s and women’s 200m (July 21), the women’s 400m hurdles starring Sydney McLaughlin and Dalilah Muhammad (July 22), and the men’s and women’s 400m (July 22).

Live in primetime, CNBC will present the semifinals for the women’s 100m and men’s 400m hurdles (July 17), heats for the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays (July 23), and the semifinals for the women’s 100m hurdles, where American Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Keni Harrison and Rio Olympic silver medalist and defending 100m hurdles world champion Nia Ali are medal contenders (July 24).

The prestigious meet will be held at University of Oregon’s iconic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., which re-opened its doors in 2021 after undergoing major renovations from 2018-2020 that have cemented its status as one of track & field’s premiere venues for international competition.

Dubbed “TrackTown USA,” Eugene and the University of Oregon have hosted multiple U.S. and NCAA championship meets and Diamond League competitions, making it only fitting that it hosts the first-ever outdoor World Championships in the U.S., which was originally scheduled for 2021, but was delayed after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics postponement.
