TRANSCRIPT: ANNIKA SORENSTAM, T4 AFTER FINAL ROUND (58 POINTS)
American Century Championship
Sunday, July 10, 2022
Lake Tahoe, Nevada, USA
Q. Finished with 58 points. So tell me about you closed really well today, three birdies on the back. So just tell me about the round today and just your play overall this week.
ANNIKA SÖRENSTAM: Yeah, I mean, obviously the finish was a lot better. Disappointed overall how I played, just made a lot of bogeys. To finish the way I did today and get some points and roll in a nice putt on 18 really makes things so much sweeter.
You know, I just really didn’t hit the ball well today. But somehow I scrambled better today than — the first day I hit the ball really well and felt like I should have been a lot lower.
So it’s just funny how this game is. I just kept trying. I said I’m never giving up. You never know what can happen out here.
Q. Looking to the next couple of weeks, how does assessing your play today and then looking into next week, and it’s a little different with a team format next week, but what are your positives that you’re taking into next week?
ANNIKA SÖRENSTAM: Yeah, no, I’m excited about playing with partner, Madelene, next week. It’s fun to be back. I have not played in this event before. I heard some really good things about it. So I’m excited.
You know, I think it’s nice to kind of have one round now in me and then go to another one. It always seems like I play one and then I have six weeks off and then I — I always feel like I start over. Now I’m coming somewhat warm, you know, coming into a tournament with form a little bit. So it will be nice to straighten out some of my iron shots, and I really want to make sure I can help Madelene as much as possible.
Q. South Lake Tahoe is your summer home. So the fans, we’re going to have record attendance this week. So just tell me about the atmosphere, just playing here, how the fans have been this week and the overall experience?
ANNIKA SÖRENSTAM: Yeah, I mean, look at this. I mean, it’s incredible. Tahoe, it always delivers in so many different ways, the weather, the tournament, the people. Just the atmosphere is incredible. That’s one of the reasons we love it up here. And to be part of this event makes it even more special. It’s been kind of one of my highlights of the summer.
