STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 6, 2022 – Three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White and 2018 Olympic gold medalist Red Gerard headline the U.S. Snowboard Team that will be competing alongside the U.S. Freeski Team at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix this weekend at Mammoth Mountain in California across NBC Sports and Peacock. The Grand Prix will serve as the final domestic U.S. Snowboard and Freeski Olympic qualifying event.
The field of Olympic snowboarding hopefuls alongside White and Gerard includes 2018 Olympian Chris Corning and Winter X Games medalist Dusty Henricksen. Gerard and two-time Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson, who will also be competing at Mammoth Mountain, and 2018 Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim have already achieved criteria to be nominated to the 2022 U.S. Olympic Snowboard team. White aims to make his fifth Olympic team at age 35. Live coverage of the slopestyle will be presented Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on Peacock and CNBC will air an encore Sunday at 11 a.m. ET. Halfpipe competition will be presented Saturday live at 11 p.m. ET on Peacock, with an encore slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CNBC.
The U.S. Freeski Team features two-time Olympic gold medalist David Wise, 2018 silver medalist Alex Ferreira, who has achieved criteria to be nominated to the 2022 U.S. Olympic Freeski team, and 2018 bronze medalist Brita Sigourney. Freeski coverage from Mammoth Mountain gets underway with the halfpipe Saturday live at 12:35 p.m. ET on Peacock and an encore presentation Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET on CNBC.
NBC Sports’ Todd Harris (play-by-play), former U.S. Olympian snowboarder Todd Richards (analyst), World Cup freestyle gold medalist Tom Wallisch, and former professional snowboarder Tina Dixon (reporter) will call the U.S. Grand Prix coverage.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist and the winningest slalom skier in World Cup history Mikaela Shiffrin, who currently leads the overall women’s World Cup standings, is expected to compete in Kranjska Gora this weekend after finishing second in slalom earlier this week. She is expected to be joined by U.S. Ski teammate Paula Moltzan. On the men’s side, the U.S. Ski Team is expected to be highlighted by Olympians Tommy Ford and Ryan Cochran-Siegle in Adelboden, Switzerland.
Former U.S. ski team racer Steve Porino (play-by-play) will call the men’s and women’s giant slalom events Saturday and slalom events Sunday with two-time Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety (analyst).
NBC Sports will present nearly 70 hours of U.S. Ski and Snowboard coverage this season, including this weekend’s snowboard and freeski events from Mammoth Mountain.
