Two-Time Olympic Gold Medalist and Six-Time World Champion Mikaela Shiffrin to Headline U.S. Ski Team This Weekend in Killington, Vermont

Men to Compete in Super-G and Downhill Friday-Sunday in Lake Louise, Canada, on Peacock

STAMFORD, Conn. – Nov. 24, 2021 – Two-time Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety joins NBC Sports’ alpine skiing coverage for two upcoming U.S.-based events, including the women’s giant slalom and slalom events this Saturday and Sunday in Killington, Vt., and the Birds of Prey Super-G and downhill races at Beaver Creek, Colo., Dec. 3-5.

One of U.S. Skiing’s most-decorated athletes, Ligety is a four-time Olympian who won a gold medal in giant slalom at the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and a gold in the combined at Torino in 2006. Ligety served as a guest analyst for NBC Sports in March 2021 for the men’s giant slalom and slalom in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, and the women’s slalom in Are, Sweden.

“I’m excited to join NBC Sports as an alpine analyst this weekend in Killington and next weekend in Beaver Creek,” said Ligety. “I’m looking forward to feeling the race jitters, but from a new perspective, and to bring my love for skiing and all that I’ve learned as a racer to TV.”

Giant slalom coverage from Killington begins Saturday at 10 a.m. ET (Run 1) and 1 p.m. ET (Run 2) on Peacock, with an encore of Run 2 airing at 3 p.m. ET on NBC. Sunday’s slalom coverage begins at 9:45 a.m. ET (Run 1) and 12:30 p.m. ET (Run 2) on NBC and Peacock. An encore presentation of Run 2 will be presented at 5:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

NBC Sports’ play-by-play commentator Dan Hicks will call this weekend’s women’s giant slalom and slalom events with Ligety and former U.S. ski team racer Steve Porino serving as analysts, and Heather Cox as reporter.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and the winningest slalom skier in World Cup history Mikaela Shiffrin headlines U.S. Ski Team contenders competing in Killington. The six-time world champion has 45 career slalom victories, only one behind Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden (46 wins in giant slalom) for the most wins by a skier in a single discipline.

U.S. Ski teammates Nina O’Brien and Paula Moltzan are expected to race alongside Shiffrin this weekend. The men compete in Super-G and downhill events Friday-Sunday in Lake Louise, Canada, on Peacock and the U.S. Ski Team is expected to be led by Olympians Bryce Bennett, Steven Nyman, Travis Ganong, and Ryan Cochran-Siegle.

NBC Sports will present nearly 70 hours of U.S. Ski and Snowboard coverage this season, including this weekend’s giant slalom and slalom events from Killington. Additional season coverage will be highlighted by events in Beaver Creek, Colo., Steamboat, Colo., Copper, Colo., Mammoth, Calif., and Deer Valley, Utah, across alpine skiing, snowboarding, and freestyle skiing competition.
