STAMFORD, Conn. – Aug. 7, 2021 – Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi and the U.S. women’s basketball team aim to win a seventh consecutive gold medal in the final against Japan live in primetime tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Team USA is currently on a 54-game Olympic unbeaten streak, with their last loss coming at the 1992 Barcelona Games.
Also tonight in primetime on NBC, the last day of track & field competition features Team USA winning gold medals in the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay finals. Allyson Felix won her historic 11th track & field Olympic medal (and seventh gold medal) to become the most decorated American track & field athlete in history alongside Tokyo individual event gold medalists Sydney McLaughlin and Athing Mu, and silver medalist Dalilah Muhammad. Team USA’s men’s 4x400m relay, headlined by Tokyo individual silver medalist Rai Benjamin, as well as Michael Norman and Michael Cherry, also earned the gold medal. American Vashti Cunningham competed in the women’s high jump.

NBC Olympics’ commentators Terry Gannon, Tara Lipinski, and Johnny Weir will host NBC’s primetime coverage of the Closing Ceremony for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad from Tokyo Olympic Stadium in primetime tomorrow (Sunday) at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC. Lewis Johnson will serve as a reporter for the Closing Ceremony for the third time (2002 Salt Lake, 2016 Rio).
Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila, the hosts of Peacock’s Tokyo LIVE throughout the Games, will host live Closing Ceremony coverage tomorrow (Sunday) at 7 a.m. ET/4 a.m. PT across Peacock, NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
Kara Winger, who in Tokyo competed in her fourth Summer Games in javelin, was selected by her teammates to serve as the flag bearer for the United States.
