NBC OLYMPICS TO LAUNCH “RINGS ACROSS AMERICA” LEADING INTO THE TOKYO 2020 OPENING CEREMONY

Life-Sized Set of Olympic Rings to Tour U.S.A. and Make Stops at Iconic Locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Orlando, Washington D.C. and New York City Ahead of Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony

Opening Ceremony Coverage for the Tokyo Olympics is Friday, July 23 on NBC

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 28, 2021 – NBC Olympics will launch “Rings Across America” this week, as a life-sized set of Olympic rings tours the country, stopping as an interactive exhibit in iconic locations in six cities ahead of the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 23. “Rings Across America” will stop at:

  • Los Angeles, Calif.: Universal CityWalk at Universal Studios Hollywood (July 3-4)
  • Chicago, Ill.: Pioneer Court (July 9)
  • Miami, Fla.: NBC Summer Games! (July 13)
  • Orlando, Fla.: Universal Studios Florida Entrance at Universal Orlando (July 16-17)
  • Washington D.C.: National Mall (July 19-20)
  • New York City: 30 Rockefeller Plaza Channel Gardens (July 23-25)

In addition to fan engagement in the six cities, the Rings will sit on the flatbed of a truck during transit, allowing for visibility throughout the entire tour across the country. The exhibit will make its first stop at Universal CityWalk adjacent to Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles, Calif. on July 3-4.

  • “Rings Across America” will drive approximately 8,000 miles across the country in the weeks leading up to the Opening Ceremony.
  • The Rings will visit 25 states, totaling over 125 hours of drive time.
  • Standing 13 feet off the ground, the Rings and mobile platform weigh more than 12,000 gold medals.

 

NBCUniversal will present an unprecedented 7,000 hours of coverage of the Tokyo Olympics this summer by utilizing two broadcast networks, six cable networks, and multiple digital platforms, serving both English- and Spanish-language viewers, making it the biggest media event ever.
