HOCKEY CULTURE SEASON TWO

The past two winners of the NHL’s Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award, Dampy Brar and Rico Phillips, joined NHL on NBC analyst Anson Carter for a conversation about their passion for uniting communities to help fight racism in hockey, and the impact of winning the prestigious award, on the latest episode of NBC Sports’ Hockey Culture.

The conversation is available now on Hockey Culture’s dedicated YouTube Channel and below are highlights:

Phillips on the impact of the Flint Inner City Youth Hockey Program: “It’s an incredible cultural breakthrough. When they get on the ice, the barriers get broke down and it’s one of the most beautiful things you can witness — the collaboration of communities coming together.”

Brar on the impact of APNA Hockey: “APNA Hockey is about connecting hockey communities together…bringing everyone together and bringing us all as one. We can speak against racism, but we want to be able to connect and educate people.”
