HOCKEY CULTURE SEASON TWO

Florida Panthers Assistant General Manager Brett Peterson, the first black individual to hold that role in the NHL, joined NHL on NBC analyst Anson Carter for a conversation about his introduction to hockey, the experiences he had with the sport growing up, and what his day-to-day responsibilities are in his role on the business side of the sport, on the latest episode of NBC Sports’ Hockey Culture.

The conversation is available now on Hockey Culture’s dedicated YouTube Channel and below are highlights:

Peterson on the life lessons he learned from the sport of hockey: “Take a hit and keep moving forward…the beauty about sports is it forces you to deal with so many life experiences whether you like it or not.”

Peterson on his mantra of how he treats others: “I’ve always tried to circulate to really good people, so I just saw people. Now, I’d be lying to you if I didn’t know I was different in terms of representation. But I held everyone to a higher standard that they were going to accept me as a good person and a pretty good hockey player.”

Earlier today in celebration of Black History Month, Hockey Culture released a video essay, narrated by Carter, revisiting the origins of the Colored Hockey League and the lasting impact it has had on the modern-day sport.

OUR LINE STARTS

NHL on NBC analysts Anson Carter and Dominic Moore joined Kathryn Tappen to discuss early season impressions surrounding the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers, and the current outlook in the East Division on the latest episode of NBC Sports’ NHL weekly podcast, Our Line Starts.
