HOCKEY CULTURE SEASON TWO

U.S. women’s hockey team captain and Chicago Blackhawks Player Development Coach and Youth Hockey Growth Specialist Kendall Coyne Schofield joined NHL on NBC analyst Anson Carter for a conversation about her journey in the sport of hockey and being a member of the U.S. women’s hockey team, where she won an Olympic gold medal in 2018, on the latest episode of NBC Sports’ Hockey Culture.

The conversation is available now on Hockey Culture’s dedicated YouTube Channel and below are highlights:

Coyne Schofield on making the U.S. women’s national team: “It’s hard to put into words…it was an honor to put on the jersey, but it’s even more of an honor to keep it on…it’s not just the player that gets to experience that moment, it’s the family and without the sacrifices of my entire family, I wouldn’t have been there.”

Coyne Schofield on the mindset of the U.S. women’s national team in growing the sport: “We knew we had the opportunity to inspire so many young boys and girls to pick up the sport of hockey and that was another part of why we wanted to win. That piece was so important and couldn’t be lost in our message that every time we stepped on the ice, we wanted to inspire people to play the game of hockey.”

Coyne Schofield on challenges she faced growing up as a woman in the sport of hockey: “Growing up there was definitely times where it was lonely. The second I got on the ice, all those negative feelings I had about the game went away…I put on my uniform and I was a hockey player.”
