STAMFORD, Conn. – Sept. 23, 2020 – NBC Sports concludes its coverage of the 2020 Diamond League track & field season from Doha, Qatar, this Friday, Sept. 25, live at Noon ET on NBCSN. The competition will also stream live on NBC Sports Gold’s “Track and Field Pass.”
Reigning two-time world champion and 2016 Olympic pole vault bronze medalist Sam Kendricks and 2019 world silver medalist Mondo Duplantis (Sweden) will go head-to-head in the pole vault competition on Friday. Duplantis is coming off a win at last Thursday’s Rome meet, where he broke a 26-year-old outdoor world pole vault record, clearing 6.15 meters. The previous record was held by 1988 Olympic champion Sergey Bubka.
Two-time Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah (Jamaica), who ran the fastest 100m race of the season (10.85 seconds) last Thursday in Rome, and reigning world and Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto (Kenya), also headline the field. Thompson-Herah is expected to compete in the 100m and participating in the 1500m is Kipruto, who’s returning to competition after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this summer.
Paul Swangard handles the call, joined by analysts – four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon and 2012 Olympian and two-time world bronze medalist Alysia Montaño, who is known for her advocacy work supporting women pursuing careers and motherhood simultaneously.
