STAMFORD, Conn. – August 24, 2020 – NBC Sports will present three weeks of wall-to-wall live and encore coverage of the 107th Tour de France, across NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, NBC Sports Gold’s “Cycling Pass” and Peacock Premium. Daily live coverage of the Tour de France, featuring all 21 stages, begins this Saturday, August 29, at 7 a.m. ET on NBCSN with the Tour de France Pre-Race Show, followed by Stage 1 at 8 a.m. ET on NBCSN, NBC Sports Gold, and Peacock Premium.

Coverage continues throughout each day of the 21-stage event, beginning on weekdays with the Tour de France Pre-Race Show, followed by live race coverage. Coverage culminates with the final stage on Sunday, September 20, live at 9:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN, NBC Sports Gold, and Peacock Premium.

The 2020 Tour de France will cover a total distance of 2,165 miles, beginning in Nice, France, and finishing 23 days later in Paris. The 2020 race, which was originally scheduled to begin June 27 before being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will travel across a total of six regions within France without crossing any borders.

Expected frontrunners in this year’s field include defending champion Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers) of Colombia, last year’s Vuelta a España winner Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma), Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck - Quick Step), who wore the yellow jersey for the majority of last year’s Tour, and 25-year old American Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma), who is making his Tour de France debut this year. Sprinters expected to compete include Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal), Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe), Elia Viviani (Cofidis), and Sam Bennett (Deceuninck-Quick-Step).

SOCIALLY-DISTANCED COMMENTATORS

NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2020 Tour de France features Phil Liggett, universally known as the “voice of cycling,” who will call play-by-play race action from Sky Sports’ studios in the U.K. Analyst Bob Roll will remotely join Liggett on the call from NBC Sports Group’s International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn.

Also in Stamford, Paul Burmeister will host daily pre-race and post-race studio coverage, along with former professional cyclist and analyst Christian Vande Velde and American Grand Tour champion Chris Horner, who made his Tour de France TV debut with NBC Sports last year. Former professional cyclist Adam Blythe, who retired in 2019, will serve as a reporter from on-site in France.

PRODUCTION HIGHLIGHTS

NBC Sports Group will integrate several features into its coverage of this year’s Tour de France:

    • NBC Sports will provide live coverage from cameras mounted on several competitors’ bicycles;
    • Blythe will have a camera focused on him as he reports to offer real-time updates on race situations, while traveling aboard a motorcycle on the course;
    • Real-time data of course gradients;
    • 3-D animated maps that track where the riders are in real-time on the route.

NBC Sports Group’s coverage will include real-time speeds of both the leaders and the peloton, and additional maps that show more detailed versions of the finishes and each mountain climb.

NBC and NBCSN will also utilize several production enhancements, including a pointer feature to easily identify and focus on one rider in the peloton, and exclusive profiles on teams and riders.

DIGITAL COVERAGE

In addition to live TV coverage of the Tour de France, NBC Sports Digital will once again provide extensive digital coverage of all 21 stages of the race.
