NBC SPORTS PHILADELPHIA ANNOUNCES RUBEN AMARO JR. TO JOIN PHILLIES BROADCAST
Former Phillies GM Joins Tom McCarthy and Gregg Murphy for Tonight’s Phillies-Yankees Exhibition Game
PHILADELPHIA-(July 20, 2020) – NBC Sports Philadelphia announced today that former Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. is joining Tom McCarthy and Gregg Murphy for tonight’s Phillies-Yankees exhibition game broadcast.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Ruben to our outstanding Phillies broadcast team,” said NBC Sports Philadelphia VP, Live Events Shawn Oleksiak. “His insight and knowledge of the game, the league and the Phillies organization will add dimension to an already stellar broadcast team.”
“I am incredibly excited to join this great broadcast group and equally excited to tell the stories of my hometown team,” said Amaro. “I grew up a fan of the Phillies and the opportunity to return to Philly and broadcast games for a team that my father and I both played for is a dream come true.”
Amaro will be a part of NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Phillies broadcast team this season, joining McCarthy, Murphy, John Kruk and Ben Davis. In addition to his broadcasting duties, Amaro will appear on Phillies Pregame Live and Phillies Postgame Live, and be a regular contributor to the Phillies Talk podcast.
Amaro is a Philadelphia native and graduate of William Penn Charter School. He played five seasons for the Phillies, following in his dad’s footsteps. After his playing days, he joined the team’s front office and served as assistant GM when the team won the World Series in 2008. He was named GM in November 2008, and led the team to the National League pennant the following season. He held the GM role until 2015. Recently, he has served as a special advisor and first base coach for the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets.
