INDYCAR Two-Race Average Viewership to Start 2020 Season is Up 30% vs. 2019

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 8, 2020 – The 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES continues this weekend with the REV Group Grand Prix doubleheader from Road America, featuring Race 1 on Saturday, July 11, at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Race 2 on Sunday, July 12, at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Sunday’s 30-minute pre-race coverage begins at 12 p.m. ET on NBC.

Five-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing, 104 pts) is currently atop the points standings after winning the first two events of the 2020 season, including the GMR Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course last weekend. That event began a stretch of five INDYCAR races in 15 days, including doubleheaders over the next two weeks at Road America and Iowa Speedway.

Defending Indy 500 champion Simon Pagenaud (Team Penske, 75 pts) sits in second place in the standings, followed by defending INDYCAR champion Josef Newgarden (Team Penske, 64 pts). Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport, 20 pts) took the checkered flag in last year’s event at Road America.

Live INDYCAR coverage from Road America begins this Saturday with a practice session at 11 a.m. ET exclusively on NBC Sports Gold’s INDYCAR Pass, which will provide live streaming coverage of all practices, qualifying and on-demand replays for the 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Coverage continues Saturday with Qualifying live at 2:15 p.m. ET on NBCSN and INDYCAR Pass. Race coverage begins at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN. The night’s broadcast coverage will conclude with INDYCAR Post-Race on NBCSN at 7 p.m. ET.

Sunday’s live coverage begins with qualifying exclusively on INDYCAR Pass at 10 a.m. ET. NBC’s coverage starts with INDYCAR Pre-Race at 12 p.m. ET, leading into the REV Group Grand Prix Race 2 beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET. Coverage on NBC will wrap up with a 30-minute INDYCAR Post-Race at 2:30 p.m. ET.

NBC Sports’ lead INDYCAR broadcast team of Leigh Diffey (play-by-play), Townsend Bell (analyst), and Paul Tracy (analyst), a two-time winner at Road America in 1993 and 2000, will have the call of both REV Group Grand Prix races at Road America. Current INDYCAR driver and NBC Sports analyst James Hinchcliffe will make his NBC Sports broadcast debut this weekend as a driver analyst on pit road. Dave Burns will serve as pit reporter.

Through the first two races of the 2020 season, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES is averaging a TAD of 1.2 million viewers, up 30% vs. the first two INDYCAR races on NBC last season (922,000), excluding the Indy 500.

NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES continues next weekend with a doubleheader at Iowa Speedway on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

This marks NBC Sports’ second season as the exclusive home of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, including the Indianapolis 500, which will now take place on Sunday, August 23 on NBC. The remainder of the 2020 television schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
