STAMFORD, Conn. – July 1, 2020 – The wait is over. Last Thursday, Liverpool won their first-ever Premier League title and first top-flight title in 30 years thanks to Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool’s crown marked the earliest a team won the title in top-flight history in terms of matches remaining, as the Reds still have seven games to play (prior record was five matches remaining).
Liverpool have now won 19 top-flight titles; only Manchester United have won more with 20. In their first match as Premier League champions, Liverpool will face the 2017-18 and 2018-19 champions Manchester City tomorrow, Thursday, July 2 at 3:15 p.m. on NBCSN and Universo. Arlo White will call the match from Etihad Stadium, joined by Arsenal legend Lee Dixon.
NBC Sports’ Premier League coverage continues today with a pair of NBCSN matches as Arsenal host Norwich City at 1 p.m. ET, followed by Christian Pulisic and fourth-place Chelsea’s visit to West Ham at 3:15 p.m. ET (NBCSN, Universo). Last Thursday, Pulisic scored his second goal in as many matches, opening the scoring in the 36th minute as the Blues dashed Manchester City’s hopes of a third consecutive Premier League title.
