NHL Player Gaming Challenge - Thursday at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN

STAMFORD, Conn. – May 11, 2020 – NBC Sports presents four memorable “on this date” in playoff history games this week on Hockey Happy Hour Monday-Thursday on NBCSN, highlighted by the Philadelphia Flyers completing their historic comeback in the 2010 Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Boston Bruins with Game 7 of the series on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN. NBC Sports’ Kathryn Tappen, Patrick Sharp and Liam McHugh will make appearances throughout the week, providing their own “on this date” stories.

This week’s NHL coverage on NBCSN includes #HockeyAtHome: NHL Hockey Moms, a 30-minute program co-hosted by Kathryn Tappen on Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET, featuring interviews with three sets of NHL players and their mothers as part of the NHL’s #HockeyAtHome series.

On Thursday, NBCSN will present the NHL Player Gaming Challenge at 5 p.m. ET, featuring Alex Debrincat and Drake Caggiula representing the Chicago Blackhawks against Blake Lizotte and Michael Amadio representing the Los Angeles Kings. The month-long initiative will pit NHL players from all 31 clubs facing off against each other in EA Sports NHL 20.

Tonight at 5 p.m. ET, NBCSN will present the fifth episode of NHL Hat Trick Trivia Hosted by P.K. Subban. Hosted by the New Jersey Devils defenseman, the show features fans answering a trio of hockey trivia questions from their homes, along with appearances from NHL players and celebrities, for the chance to win NHL prizes. Olympic gold medalist Kendall Coyne Schofield will join the show, as well as Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau, Zach Werenski of the Blue Jackets and country music star Chris Young.

Programming will also stream on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.

NHL HAT TRICK TRIVIA HOSTED BY P.K. SUBBAN AT 5 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Olympic gold medalist Kendall Coyne Schofield will join the fifth episode of NHL Hat Trick Trivia Hosted by P.K. Subban. CANUCKS-BLACKHAWKS (2009 WESTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS, GAME 6) AT 5:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Blackhawks and Canucks clashed in a high-scoring affair combining for 12 goals in Game 6. Chicago scored four goals in the third period for the 7-5 comeback victory, advancing to the Western Conference Final. Patrick Kane recorded his first career hat trick in the contest.

Pat Foley (play-by-play) and U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk (analyst) had the call from United Center in Chicago, Ill.

During the broadcast, Liam McHugh interviews Patrick Sharp, who registered an assist as a member of the Blackhawks in this matchup. They discuss the comeback effort, the team’s rivalry with Vancouver, and the evolution of Chicago’s dynasty.

TUESDAY, MAY 12

PREDATORS-DUCKS (2017 WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL, GAME 1) AT 5 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Nashville jumped out to an early series lead when they registered a 3-2 overtime win in the team’s first-ever appearance in the Western Conference Final behind James Neal’s winning goal in overtime.

Kenny Albert (play-by-play), Joe Micheletti (analyst) and Brian Boucher (‘Inside the Glass’ analyst) called the matchup from Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

As part of the broadcast, Tappen looks back at St. Louis’ win over Calgary in the ‘Monday Night Miracle’ 34 years ago on May 12, 1986.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 13

#HOCKEYATHOME: NHL HOCKEY MOMS AT 5 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

NBC Sports’ Kathryn Tappen will co-host a 30-minute program that features interviews with three sets of NHL players and their mothers at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN. The three mother and son relationships featured in the program are:


  • Ryan (New York Rangers), Dylan (Chicago Blackhawks) and Matthew Strome (Philadelphia Flyers prospect) and mother, Trish
  • Quinn (Vancouver Canucks) and Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils) and mother, Ellen
  • David Ayres (Carolina Hurricanes emergency goalie) and mother, Mary

RANGERS-PENGUINS (2014 SECOND ROUND, GAME 7) AT 5:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Rangers and Penguins clashed in a Game 7 duel that resulted in a 2-1 hard-fought New York win. Brad Richards’ game and series clinching goal propelled New York to the Eastern Conference Final. For the first time in franchise history, the Rangers overcame a 3–1 game deficit to win a seven-game series.

Seven-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick and Pierre McGuire (‘Inside the Glass’ analyst) called Game 7 from Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

During the broadcast, McHugh remembers a pair of thrilling Game 7 overtime contests that occurred on May 13 in 2013 (Toronto vs. Boston, Eastern Conference Quarterfinals) and 2015 (Washington vs. New York Rangers, Eastern Conference Second Round).

THURSDAY, MAY 14

NHL PLAYER GAMING CHALLENGE AT 5 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

NBCSN will present the NHL Player Gaming Challenge at 5 p.m. ET, between Chicago vs. Los Angeles. The competition features Alex Debrincat and Drake Caggiula representing the Blackhawks against Blake Lizotte and Michael Amadio of the Kings. The month-long initiative will pit NHL players from all 31 clubs facing off against each other in EA Sports NHL 20.

Following the hour-long broadcast at 5 p.m. ET, a matchup between Anthony Mantha and Madison Bowey of the Detriot Red Wings and Jordan Greenway and Devan Dubnyk of the Minnesota Wild will be available on NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app and the NBC Sports YouTube channel.

FLYERS-BRUINS (2010 EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS, GAME 7) AT 6 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

After rallying from a 3-0 series deficit to force a Game 7, the Flyers found themselves down 3-0 against the Bruins in that winner-take-all contest. Philadelphia responded with four unanswered goals, capped by Simon Gagne’s series-clinching tally in the 3rd period, to advance to the Eastern Conference Final. The Flyers became just the third team in NHL history at the time to win a series after trailing 3-0.

Joe Beninati (play-by-play), Billy Jaffe (analyst) and Bob Harwood (analyst) had the call from TD Garden in Boston, Ma.
