Sunday’s Olympic Films Highlighted by 1968, Narrated by Serena Williams, and Sydney 2000: Stories of Olympic Glory, Starting at 10:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 24, 2020 – NBC Sports’ Olympic Games Week concludes this weekend, highlighted by nearly 30 years of U.S. women’s gymnastics and two Olympic Films. Coverage continues tonight at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Some of the most iconic gymnastics teams and athletes in history will be on display, including Kerri Strug and the U.S. ‘Magnificent Seven,’ Carly Patterson, Simone Biles, Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson, Gabby Douglas and more.

NBC Olympics primetime host Mike Tirico will introduce nightly coverage, which concludes this Sunday, April 26. Programming will also stream on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. Coverage of Olympic Sports on NBC Sports Group platforms is a presentation of Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.

In addition, 1996 ‘Magnificent Seven’ team member Shannon Miller, 2004 Olympic all-around gold medalist Patterson, and 2017 world all-around champion Morgan Hurd will provide commentary on Instagram Live.

Tonight, starting at 8 p.m. ET, Miller will add her insights on the historic U.S. victory in the 1996 women’s team final, followed by Patterson at 10 p.m. ET providing social commentary during the 2004 Athens all-around final. Then on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET, Hurd will commentate on the 2012 London women’s team final.

TONIGHT, FRIDAY, APRIL 24 – OLYMPIC CLASSICS: WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS

NBC Sports presents nearly 30 years of U.S. women’s gymnastics coverage beginning Friday on NBCSN with the ‘Magnificent Seven’ winning the first American team gold medal in Olympic history in 1996. An all-around triple-header features Patterson becoming the first American woman in 20 years to win the all-around in 2004, while Liukin and Johnson followed in 2008 as the first U.S. women to go 1-2 in the all-around at an Olympic Games.

ATLANTA 1996: WOMEN’S TEAM FINAL AT 8 P.M. ET

In front of the home crowd in Atlanta, the U.S. women’s gymnastics team, known as the ‘Magnificent Seven,’ won the United States’ first Olympic women’s gymnastics team gold medal. In one of the most iconic moments of the Atlanta Games, Strug landed an unforgettable vault on an injured ankle as the U.S. won a memorable gold medal.

ATHENS 2004: WOMEN’S ALL-AROUND FINAL AT 10 P.M. ET

Patterson earned gold in Athens to become the first U.S. woman to win the Olympic all-around title since Mary Lou Retton in 1984. Three-time world champion and 25-year-old Svetlana Khorkina of Russia won her first Olympic all-around medal (silver), becoming the oldest medalist in the women’s Olympic all-around since Vera Caslavska (26) in 1968.

BEIJING 2008: WOMEN’S ALL-AROUND FINAL AT MIDNIGHT ET

In Beijing, Liukin and teammate Johnson, who came in as the reigning world all-around champion, had a 1-2 finish, becoming the first U.S. women to claim the top two spots on the podium in the women’s Olympic all-around competition.

Liukin joined Retton (1984) and Patterson (2004) as the only U.S. women’s gymnasts to win an Olympic all-around title. Russian-born and Texas-raised, Liukin trained at the same gym as Patterson, and was coached by her father, Valeri, a four-time Olympic gymnastics medalist.

SEOUL 1988: WOMEN’S ALL-AROUND FINAL AT 11 P.M. PT/2 A.M. ET

In one of the closest women’s all-around finals in Olympic history, the late Yelena Shushunova of the Soviet Union scored a perfect 10 on her final vault to overtake Romanian rival, Daniela Silivas, and win the gold. Brandy Johnson was the highest finishing U.S. woman in the all-around in 10th place.

TOMORROW, SATURDAY, APRIL 25 – OLYMPIC CLASSICS: WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS

More historic U.S. gymnastics performances will be presented from the 2016, 2012, and 2004 Olympic Games. Highlighted events include the ‘Fierce Five’ team final in London, Biles and Aly Raisman finishing 1-2 in the Rio all-around, and the U.S. capturing a silver medal in the team final at the 2004 Games.

LONDON 2012: WOMEN’S TEAM FINAL AT 8 P.M. ET

At the 2012 London Olympics, the U.S. women’s gymnastics team, known as the ‘Fierce Five,’ won its first women’s gymnastics team title since the ‘Magnificent Seven’ at the 1996 Atlanta Games. Members of the U.S. women’s team in London included Douglas, who went on to win the all-around title in London, Raisman in her Olympic debut, 2011 world all-around champion Jordyn Wieber, vault specialist McKayla Maroney, and Kyla Ross, who would go on to become the first female gymnast to win Olympic, world and NCAA titles.

LONDON 2012: WOMEN’S ALL-AROUND FINAL AT 10 P.M. ET

Douglas earned all-around gold in London to become the fourth Olympic all-around champion in U.S. history, following Retton (1984), Patterson (2004) and Liukin (2008). Russia’s Viktoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina earned silver and bronze, respectively, while Raisman finished fourth on a tiebreaker.

RIO 2016: WOMEN’S ALL-AROUND FINAL AT 11:30 P.M. ET

In the Rio all-around final, the U.S. women had a 1-2 finish with Biles winning gold and Raisman earning silver.

This marked only the second time in history the U.S. claimed the top two spots on the podium in the women’s all-around competition, after Liukin and Johnson did so in 2008. Biles also gave the U.S. a fourth consecutive gold medal in the women’s all-around, following Patterson (2004), Liukin (2008) and Douglas (2012).

ATHENS 2004: WOMEN’S TEAM FINAL AT 10:30 P.M. PT/1:30 A.M. ET

Entering the competition as the reigning world champions, the U.S. team finished with a silver medal behind defending Olympic champion Romania. Members of the U.S. women’s team included Patterson, who went on to win the all-around title in Athens, and 2004 Olympic uneven bars bronze medalist Courtney Kupets.

SUNDAY, APRIL 26 – OLYMPIC FILMS – 1968, SYDNEY 2000: STORIES OF OLYMPIC GLORY; AND OLYMPIC ADVENTURES WITH MARY CARILLO: SUMMER OLYMPICS

Olympic Games Week concludes this Sunday at 10:30 p.m. ET with two films: 1968 and Sydney 2000: Stories of Olympic Glory; and an encore of Olympic Adventures with Mary Carillo: Summer Olympics.

1968 AT 10:30 P.M. ET

Narrated by four-time Olympic gold medalist and 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams, the film originally premiered during NBC Olympics’ coverage of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics and tells the story of how the Mexico City Games became a stage for the collision of sport and politics, as evidenced by the iconic Black Power salute by U.S. Olympians Tommie Smith and John Carlos.

SYDNEY 2000: STORIES OF OLYMPIC GLORY AT MIDNIGHT ET

The official film of the 2000 Sydney Games, directed by the late Bud Greenspan, profiles stories from the Games of the XXVII Olympiad.

OLYMPIC ADVENTURES WITH MARY CARILLO: SUMMER OLYMPICS AT 11:30 P.M. PT/2:30 A.M. ET (ENCORE)

Olympic Adventures with Mary Carillo: Summer Olympics features longtime NBC Olympics correspondent Mary Carillo traveling around the world, visiting different nations, people and cultures. Carillo visits Beijing, London, and more in this half-hour special.
