STAMFORD, Conn. – April 22, 2020 – NBC Sports’ Olympic Games Week continues tonight at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN, highlighted by the U.S. men’s basketball team’s gold medal performances at the 1992, 2000, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Some of the most historic basketball teams and players in history will be on display, including the ‘Dream Team,’ Michael Jordan, LeBron James, the late Kobe Bryant, and more.

NBC Olympics primetime host Mike Tirico will introduce nightly coverage throughout the week. Programming will also stream on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. Coverage of Olympic Sports on NBC Sports Group platforms is a presentation of Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.

2008 GOLD MEDAL GAME: USA VS. SPAIN AT 7 P.M. ET

The U.S. men’s basketball team in 2008 featured Bryant, James, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony, among others. The U.S. defeated Spain and Pau Gasol in the preliminary round by 37 points, but the gold medal game between the two countries was a more closely contested affair, with the U.S. winning 118-107. Wade led all scorers with 27 points, and Bryant added 20.

1992 GOLD MEDAL GAME: USA VS. CROATIA AT 9 P.M. ET

The 1992 U.S. men’s basketball team, known as the ‘Dream Team,’ was composed of 11 NBA All-Stars (all were later enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame) and the 1992 men’s college basketball player of the year (Christian Laettner). The roster was composed of all-time greats including Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Scottie Pippen, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, John Stockton, Clyde Drexler, David Robinson and Laettner. The team won all eight of its games by an average margin of nearly 44 points. In the gold medal game, the ‘Dream Team’ defeated Croatia 117-85.

2012 GOLD MEDAL GAME: USA VS. SPAIN AT 11 P.M. ET

At the 2012 Olympics in London, the U.S. men’s basketball team again matched up with Pau Gasol and Spain in the gold medal game. In a tight battle, the U.S. prevailed, 107-100, behind the play of Kevin Durant, James, Bryant and Chris Paul. In the winning effort, Durant led all scorers with 30 points, and James chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds.

2000 GOLD MEDAL GAME: USA VS. FRANCE AT 1 A.M. ET

At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the U.S. men’s basketball team was led by 2020 Naismith Hall of Fame honoree Kevin Garnett, as well as Jason Kidd and Vince Carter. The U.S. won its third consecutive gold when they defeated France 85-75 in the gold medal game. The Americans weren’t as dominant as they had been in previous Games, having barely edged Lithuania in the semifinal, 85-83.
