NBC SPORTS NORTHWEST FEATURES FATHER-SON DUO; “TALKIN’ DUCKS” HOST JORDAN KENT, THE FIRST THREE-SPORT LETTERMAN AT OREGON IN 60 YEARS, WELCOMES FATHER & FORMER DUCKS HEAD COACH ERNIE KENT
STAMFORD, Conn. – Mar. 20, 2020 – Jordan and Ernie Kent join the ranks of famous father-son sports broadcast duos. The Kents teamed up this year to cover the Ducks basketball teams, making some history of their own on NBC Sports Northwest.
Jordan has been the long-time host of the weekly Talkin Ducks television show and launched the Talkin’ Ducks podcast this past year. Ideally suited to talk Ducks, Jordan was the first three-sport letterman at the University of Oregon since World War II, and is a member of the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame. He was a wide receiver for the Oregon football team, played basketball for the Ducks, and as a sprinter was a four-time track All-American. In 2007, he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. A member of the NBC Sports Northwest broadcast team, Jordan is the studio host for the Portland Trail Blazers pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows.
Ernie, who coached the Ducks from 1997-2010 and registered 235 career wins, the most in school history at the time, is excited to support his son contributing his extensive basketball knowledge and experience to Talkin’ Ducks. Ernie’s career spans decades coaching basketball at the collegiate level where he led teams to six NCAA appearances, including two Elite Eights, to serving as head coach for the USA Basketball Men’s Junior team winning a pair of gold medals in 2001 and 2003. He has coached some of the world’s greatest players, including NBA All-Stars and 2008 Olympic gold medalist and current Trail Blazer, Carmelo Anthony. To this day, Ernie contributes to the sport and its coaches as a board member with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
As Oregon basketball legacies, Jordan and Ernie Kent enjoy bringing insights to the play and futures of current Oregon athletes like Payton Pritchard and Sabrina Ionescu each week on Talkin’ Ducks. Beyond analyzing hoops games, the father-son duo are committed to developing student athletes and youth off the court. Ernie was an early architect of creating the holistic student athlete experience at the collegiate level. Jordan leads sports camps for youth in Oregon and SW Washington in addition to creating Level Up Health, a youth nutritional education movement focused on teaching children essential information regarding diet and exercise.
