NBC Sports’ NASCAR Writer Dustin Long Wins Second National Motorsports Press Association Writer of the Year Award

STAMFORD, Conn. – Feb. 4, 2020 – NBC Sports continues its coverage of the 2020 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season this Saturday from Petco Park in San Diego, Calif. at 10 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Eli Tomac claimed his second 450SX Class win of the season last week in Oakland, after winning in Anaheim on Jan. 18.

Rounding out the top three finishers in Oakland were defending 450SX Class champion Cooper Webb in second and Ken Roczen in third. Roczen retained the championship lead, but following Tomac’s victory, his lead is down to just three points. In the 250SX Class, Dylan Ferrandis also earned his second win of the season, and enters San Diego atop the points standings.

Veteran play-by-play commentator Ralph Sheheen, five-time Supercross champion and seven-time Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael, host and former racer Daniel Blair, and reporter Will Christien will call the action.

The opening race of the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season, the BMW Endurance Challenge, from Daytona International Speedway, will be shown this Thursday at 1 p.m. ET on NBCSN. The race features the IMSA debut of 18-year-old rising motorsports star Hailie Deegan.

NBC SPORTS’ NASCAR WRITER DUSTIN LONG WINS SECOND NATIONAL MOTORSPORTS PRESS ASSOCIATION WRITER OF THE YEAR AWARD

NBC Sports’ NASCAR writer Dustin Long was named the 2019 George Cunningham Writer of the Year by the National Motorsports Press Association, sharing this year’s award in a three-way tie. This marks the second time Long has won the George Cunningham Writer of the Year Award, following his first win in 2011.

Long won first place in the feature category for his story on the tragic and remarkable story of Chris Lambert, spotter for Denny Hamlin. Long also won third place in race coverage for his piece detailing Tyler Reddick’s bet with his girlfriend, Alexa De Leon, on naming their son after he won the Xfinity Series Championship at Homestead.
