USA CORNHOLE LAUNCHES AS THE NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY FOR THE BACKYARD SPORT OF CORNHOLE, PARTNERS WITH NBC SPORTS FOR 2020 BROADCASTS

Vision is for cornhole to become an Olympic Sport

Denver, Colo. (January 24, 2020) - The former backyard game known as bags, bean bag toss, or cornhole has launched a non-profit organization, USA Cornhole, which will partner with NBC Sports to televise four National Events on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) in 2020. USA Cornhole coverage on NBCSN begins on Sunday, May 24, 2020, with the USA Forces Cornhole Championship, and will be followed by presentations of the USA Cornhole Club Championship, USA Cornhole Pro-Celebrity Charity Invitational, and USA Cornhole National Championship, in the second half of 2020.

This organization has been created to become the official National Governing Body for the sport, similar in concept to Olympic NGB’s such as USA Swimming, USA Track and Field, and USA Curling. The organization’s mission will be to govern, sanction, and standardize the sport of cornhole in the US through a series of state, regional, and national competitions while uniting the cornhole community by encouraging participation from all ages, genders, and economic backgrounds.

USA Cornhole will be based out of Denver, CO. Kevin Warner will serve as the Executive Director, and have a Board of Directors with representation from around the country made up of athletes and individuals from the business community. USA Cornhole will be a member-based organization, and with each membership, help support the Member Clubs, State and Regional Associations, and make the overall cornhole community stronger. The associations will run state and regional competitions to qualify for a USA Cornhole National Championship. This championship will be used to create a United States Cornhole National Team.

“I believe that this is a great time to start USA Cornhole, with all of the recent success and notoriety of the sport, especially from the television broadcasts – our partnership with NBC Sports Network is the perfect example of how telecasts help legitimize us,” said Kevin Warner, Executive Director, USA Cornhole. “The ultimate goal and vision of the organization is to become an Olympic sport. With my passion for the sport and background in working with Olympic organizations, I hope to bring legitimacy and further success to USA Cornhole and the overall sport,” Warner continued.

Warner added, “USA Cornhole does not intend to be a competitor of any current national cornhole league, we want to carve out our lane and stay in it all the way to the Olympic Games.”

“We’re excited to partner with USA Cornhole this season,” said Nick Casanova, Director, Programming, NBC Sports. “Their compelling tournaments held throughout the country will be a great addition to the NBC Sports family, providing viewers with an experience to witness the exciting atmosphere and competition at these events – and we hope to be there when cornhole becomes an Olympic sport!”
