Newtown High School Football Team to be Featured during Halftime of Sunday Night Football following Yesterday’s Last-Second TD to Win State Title on 7th Anniversary of Sandy Hook Tragedy

Players and Coaches Will be In-Studio with Mike Tirico, Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison

STAMFORD, Conn. – Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019 – The Newtown High School football team will be featured during halftime of tonight’s Sunday Night Football broadcast on NBC.

Yesterday, Newtown defeated Darien, 13-7, to win the Connecticut Class LL state championship, seven years to the day of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. Quarterback Jack Street connected with receiver Riley Ward for a 36-yard touchdown pass as time expired to win the game and cap an undefeated season for Newtown (13-0). Newtown players and coaches will join Football Night in America’s Mike Tirico, Tony Dungy, and Rodney Harrison in-studio at NBC Sports’ International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn., for a segment that will air during halftime of tonight’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. Coverage begins with Football Night in America at 7 p.m. ET on NBC.
