Exclusive Live Coverage of Season Opener Begins on “Snow Pass” Saturday at 5 a.m. ET with Women’s Giant Slalom

Three-Time Defending Overall World Cup Champion and Four-Time Reigning Slalom World Champion Shiffrin to Compete in Women’s Giant Slalom

STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 23, 2019 – U.S. Olympic gold medalists Mikaela Shiffrin and Ted Ligety headline live coverage of the FIS Alpine World Cup season opener in Soelden, Austria, this weekend as part of 10 hours of exclusive live streaming coverage on NBC Sports Gold’s “Snow Pass,” beginning Saturday at 5 a.m. ET.

Shiffrin, the three-time defending overall World Cup champion and last year’s giant slalom crystal globe winner, will return to World Cup competition following a dominant performance last season in which she captured a record 17 victories, becoming the first skier to win the overall, super-G, giant slalom and slalom World Cup titles in a single season. Ligety, who has a record four career wins at Soelden, is seeking his first World Cup victory since 2015, when he won the season-opening giant slalom in Soelden.

The World Cup season begins Saturday with 2.5 hours of live coverage of the women’s giant slalom starting at 5 a.m. ET with the first run, followed by the second run at 8 a.m. ET. The men’s giant slalom first run begins on Sunday at 5 a.m. ET, with the second run at 8 a.m. ET.

NBC Sports Gold relaunched “Snow Pass” earlier this month, giving fans access to 900 hours of live and on-demand domestic and international competitions of seven Olympic winter sports from October 2019 through March 2020.
