STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 14, 2019 – The NHL’s current and rising stars will be showcased this week on NBCSN, highlighted by a Wednesday Night Hockey clash between Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.

Avs-Pens kicks off a doubleheader on Wednesday that shifts north of the border at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, when Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers host Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers.

One of the top NHL rivalries enters a new era Thursday on NBCSN with a clash between the No. 1 and No. 2 picks of the 2019 NHL Draft, when Jack Hughes and the New Jersey Devils host Kaapo Kakko and the New York Rangers at 7 p.m. ET.

This week’s NHL coverage on NBCSN begins tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET, when Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning travel to Montreal to play Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre.

Paul Burmeister will host Tuesday’s coverage on NHL Live alongside analysts Jeremy Roenick and Anson Carter. Kathryn Tappen will host NHL Live on Wednesday with analysts Patrick Sharp, Roenick and NHL insider Bob McKenzie. Tappen will host on Thursday with Sharp and Keith Jones.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY
– AVALANCHE-PENGUINS AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Avalanche enter the week with a perfect 4-0-0 record to open the 2019-20 season. Mikko Rantanen (3g/3a) and Nathan MacKinnon (1g/5a) pace the club with six points apiece, followed by rookie defenseman Cale Makar’s five assists. Colorado faces Washington tonight.

The Penguins (4-2-0) have won three straight games heading into Wednesday night’s matchup vs. Colorado, including back-to-back seven-goal outbursts on Saturday and Sunday. Pittsburgh beat Minnesota, 7-4, on Saturday, followed by a 7-2 win in Winnipeg on Sunday, as Crosby registered two points apiece in the wins.

Seven-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, who is in his 15th season as NBC Sports’ lead NHL play-by-play commentator, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk and ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Brian Boucher will call Avs-Pens from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.


FLYERS-OILERS – WEDNESDAY AT 9:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Oilers have opened the season with a perfect 5-0-0 record for the first time since 1985-86, following their 4-1 win against the Rangers on Saturday. Connor McDavid leads the NHL with 12 points (4g/8a) and had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s win, while teammate James Neal leads the league with seven goals.

Philadelphia has registered points in all three of its games (2-0-1) this season, including a 3-2 shootout loss to Vancouver on Saturday. The Flyers beat the Devils, 4-0, last week on Wednesday Night Hockey on NBCSN, as goalie Carter Hart made 25 saves for his first NHL shutout.

Chris Cuthbert (play-by-play) and Ray Ferraro (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call of Flyers-Oilers from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.


RANGERS-DEVILS – THURSDAY AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Rangers-Devils rivalry enters a new era on Thursday night on NBCSN when top overall picks Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko square off for the first time. Kakko scored his first NHL goal in the Rangers’ (2-1-0) 4-1 loss to the Oilers on Saturday. Hughes has yet to register his first NHL point for the Devils (0-3-2), who will look for their first win tonight against Florida.

Kenny Albert (play-by-play), Mike Milbury (analyst) and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the call from Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

 

LIGHTNING-CANADIENS – TOMORROW AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Tampa Bay (2-2-1) enters the week following a 4-2 loss to Ottawa on Saturday. The Lightning are led by Steven Stamkos and reigning NHL MVP Nikita Kucherov, who each have three goals and three assists.” Montreal (2-1-2) is coming off a 6-3 win against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Blues, as Brendan Gallagher registered three points in the win.

Gord Miller (play-by-play) and McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’) will call the action from Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
