A Look at this Season’s Three Promoted Clubs: Aston Villa, Norwich City, Sheffield United

NBC Sports’ First-Ever Production from Sky Studios — Premier League Live: Transfer Deadline Day — Airs Live This Thurs., Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. ET on NBCSN

Match Coverage Begins Friday, August 9 at 2 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Universo, as Champions League Winners Liverpool Host Norwich City

STAMFORD, Conn. – August 4, 2019 – NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2019-20 Premier League season kicks off five days from today, on Friday, August 9, when Mohamed Salah and Liverpool host newly promoted Norwich City at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Universo. Premier League Live begins at 2 p.m. ET on NBCSN, featuring commentary and discussion from NBC Sports’ Premier League broadcast team on-site at Anfield. Throughout the 2019-20 Premier League season, live coverage continues across the networks of NBCUniversal, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app, and on the NBC Sports Gold’s newly upgraded “Premier League Pass.”

Continuing its annual tradition of a trip to the United Kingdom, NBC Sports’ U.S.-based Premier League team will open the season on the road, as the entire announce team works together on-location in the U.K. for kickoff of the 2019-20 Premier League season, August 8-11. Extensive Premier League coverage will be presented from match grounds in the U.K. over the season’s opening three days, featuring on-site studios for pre-match, halftime and post-game shows as well as pitch-side locations.

One day before the season begins, on Thursday, August 8, NBC Sports’ will produce its first-ever telecast from Sky studios in the U.K. as it presents Premier League Live: Transfer Deadline Day at 11 a.m. ET on NBCSN.

New Season, Newly Promoted Teams:

ASTON VILLA

First match: August 10 - Tottenham v. Aston Villa at 12:30 p.m. ET - NBC, Universo

After a three-season absence, Aston Villa return to the Premier League this season. The team earned promotion after finishing fifth in the Championship last season and winning in the Championship Play-Off Final. This will be Aston Villa’s first top-flight season since 2015-16, when the club finished in last place and were relegated from the Premier League for the first time. As one of the founders of the Premier League and one of England’s most decorated clubs, Aston Villa have won 20 major trophies in their history, including 7 top-flight titles and a European Cup (now known as the Champions League).

NORWICH CITY

First match: August 9 – Liverpool v. Norwich City at 3 p.m. ET – NBCSN, Universo

Also one of the founders of the Premier League, Norwich City earned automatic promotion to the 2019-20 Premier League season by winning the Championship title. Like Aston Villa, this season will be Norwich’s first in the Premier League since 2015-16. In the past 10 seasons, Norwich have spent five in the Championship, four in the Premier League, and one in League One (3rd tier). Led by 2018-19 Championship Player of the Season Teemu Pukki, Norwich City scored a league-high 93 goals last season and will hope their offensive threat continues at the top level.

SHEFFIELD UNITED

First match: August 10 – Bournemouth v. Sheffield United at 10 a.m. ET– NBCSN, Universo

Sheffield United earned automatic promotion to the 2019-20 Premier League by finishing in 2nd place in the Championship last season. This season will be Sheffield United’s fourth ever in the Premier League, and first since 2006-07. The club have been on an upward trajectory, as they’ve earned two promotions in the past three seasons to climb from the 3rd tier to the Premier League.
