THE MATCHUPS
Following the first two weeks of play, the PLL has seen three overtime contests and four one-goal difference games. The action continues this weekend with the following matchups:
CHAOS LC (1-1) VS. REDWOODS LC (1-1) – Saturday, June 15, at 2 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Gold
Chaos LC looks to notch their second win of the season this weekend following an 18-13 victory over Atlas LC in Week 2. Despite an Atlas goal within the first eight seconds of the game, Chaos responded with five straight goals, most notably two two-pointer from Matt Rees in the five-goal run. Chaos attackman Connor Fields had a strong performance in the effort with two goals. Teammate Miles Thompson scored four goals against the Atlas defense, highlighted by a behind-the-back goal. Chaos looks to build on this success in Week 3.
Redwoods LC was handed their first loss of the season in Week 2 by Archers LC, 10-9. Overall, the Redwoods’ six-on-six offense didn’t create enough opportunities to respond to the strong performance by the Archers. Redwoods relied heavily on Sergio Salcido (1G, 1A), Brent Adams (1G) and others in transition last week; without that spark in fast and slow break scenarios, this offense struggled. They will look to bounce back this weekend against Chaos this weekend in Chicago.
ARCHERS (2-0) VS. WHIPSNAKES LC (2-0) – Saturday, June 15, at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN
Both Archers LC and Whipsnakes LC remain undefeated through the first two weeks of the PLL season. Archers LC topped the Redwoods last weekend at Red Bull Arena, 10-9. Their best offense came from pairing any two of Marcus Holman (1G, 2A), Tom Schreiber (2G, 1A) and Kevin Rice (1A) together behind the cage. Down the stretch, Ben McIntosh (2G) and Ryan Ambler (1G, 1A) “hit singles” by winning their one-on-one matchups.
For the second straight week, the Whipsnakes took home a victory in overtime. Great communication off the bat for the Whipsnakes’ offense led to three goals early on by Mike Chanenchuk, John Haus, and Michael Ehrhardt. Ryan Drenner had a dominant performance this week, with the goal to lead his team to victory. Whipsnakes LC will look to hand Archers LC its first loss of the season this weekend.
CHROME (0-2) VS. ATLAS (0-2) – Sunday, June 16, at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC
Atlas LC and Chrome LC each look to notch their first win of the season this weekend after both losing their first two games of the season. Chrome LC lost its second game of the season to Whipsnakes in overtime last weekend, 12-11. Defense started the game strong, and goals from John Ranagan, Justin Guterding, and Max Tuttle kept Chrome in the game and take it into overtime. Chrome’s offense was also helped by their new face-off athlete Connor Farrell, who was 11-of-12 in faceoffs through the start of the fourth quarter – but it was Whipsnakes LC that took home the victory in OT. Chrome looks to take home its first win of the season this weekend against Atlas on NBC.
Ryan Brown got Sunday’s Atlas-Chaos matchup off to a hot start by scoring a goal for Atlas within eight seconds, but Chaos responded quickly and often. Connor Buczek was one of the bright spots for Atlas despite leaving the game with a dislocated shoulder before having it popped back into place. Upon his return to the game, Buczek scored a two-pointer, but Atlas was unable to complete a comeback and lost to Chaos, 18-13. Paul Rabil’s Atlas LC looks to rebound from their first two losses of the season against Chrome this weekend.
