2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs Continue to Deliver Viewership Records & Milestones
STAMFORD, Conn. – May 1, 2019 – NBC Sports continues its exclusive coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight on NBCSN with a doubleheader beginning at 7 p.m. ET, as Mathew Barzal and the New York Islanders look to battle back from a 2-0 series deficit with a Game 3 win tonight in Carolina against Justin Williams and the Hurricanes. John Forslund (play-by-play), AJ Mleczko (analyst), and Brian Boucher (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
Coverage shifts to the Western Conference at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, as Tyler Seguin look to even the series at two games apiece with a Game 4 win against Jaden Schwartz and the St. Louis Blues. Kenny Albert (play-by-play), 2018 Olympic gold medalist Kendall Coyne Schofield (analyst), and Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
Pre-game coverage begins at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN with NHL Live.

N.Y. ISLANDERS AT CAROLINA HURRICANES – GAME 3 AT 7 P.M. ET TONIGHT ON NBCSN – CAROLINA LEADS SERIES 2-0
The Hurricanes scored twice in a 48-second span early in the third period to register a 2-1 Game 2 victory over the Islanders on Sunday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Warren Foegele scored his fifth goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the win, and teammate and former Islander Nino Niederreiter scored at 1:05 of the third period to give Carolina the 2-1 lead. Hurricanes goalie Curtis McElhinney came in during the second period following an injury to Petr Mrazek and made 17 saves to preserve the win for Carolina. McElhinney is slated to start tonight’s Game 3 in Carolina, where the Hurricanes are 3-0 this postseason.
ST. LOUIS BLUES AT DALLAS STARS – GAME 4 TONIGHT AT 9:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN – ST. LOUIS LEADS SERIES 2-1
The Blues broke the series tie on Monday night with a 4-3 victory in Game 3 over the Stars. St. Louis native Patrick Maroon scored the go-ahead goal late in the third to lift the Blues to victory. Teammates Alex Pietrangelo, Tyler Bozak, and Jaden Schwartz also scored goals for St. Louis, and Blues goalie Jordan Binnington made 28 saves in the back-and-forth Game 3 win. The series stays in Dallas tonight before shifting back to St. Louis for Game 5 on Friday.
KENDALL COYNE SCHOFIELD TO SERVE AS ANALYST FOR GAMES 4 AND 5 OF BLUES-STARS SERIES
2018 Olympic gold medalist Kendall Coyne Schofield will serve as an analyst for Games 4 and 5 of the St. Louis Blues-Dallas Stars Second Round series, which will air on NBCSN tonight and Friday at 9:30 p.m. ET. Coyne Schofield made her debut as an analyst with NBC Sports during the 2018-19 regular season and has served as a studio analyst for NHL Network.
Coyne Schofield was a member of the NWHL’s Minnesota Whitecaps this past season and represented the club at the NWHL All-Star Game. The Whitecaps defeated the Buffalo Beauts by a score of 2-1 in overtime in the Isobel Cup this season to capture the league title. Most recently, Coyne Schofield skated for Team USA at the 2019 IIHF Women’s World Championship, where the U.S. defeated Finland in the gold-medal game to capture its fifth straight title.
2019 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS CONTINUE TO DELIVER VIEWERSHIP RECORDS & MILESTONES
The 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs continue to deliver viewership records and milestones. Here are some recent highlights:
- Through Monday night, the 2019 Playoffs are tied with last season for the best in seven years, averaging a Total Audience delivery of 904,000 viewers for 54 games across NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, USA Network, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.
- Cable coverage of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs is averaging a TAD of 745,000 viewers, the best cable delivery through this point in the playoffs on record (since 1994) and up 13% vs. last year.
- On NBC Sports’ streaming platforms, the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs to date have totaled 358 million live minutes, up 44% compared to the same time period of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
- The Second Round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs to date has posted a TAD of 1.520 million across nine games to rank as the best delivery for Round 2 through five days in five years (2014; 1.596 million viewers) and up 3% vs. the comparable date range last year.
- Saturday night’s double-overtime game between Columbus and Boston on NBC is the most-watched Second Round Game 2 on record, averaging a TAD of 2.913 million viewers, up 30% vs. the comparable game last year (SJ-VGK). The TV-only audience peaked from 11:30-11:45 pm ET with 4.1 million viewers.
- Columbus and Denver continue to set local ratings records. For last night’s Boston-Columbus Game 3, Columbus delivered a 13.2 local rating, NBC Sports’ highest-ever rating for an NHL game in the market. Denver scored a 7.8 rating for San Jose-Colorado Game 3, also NBC Sports’ highest-ever rating for an NHL game in the market.
