COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS AND N.Y. ISLANDERS COMPLETE FIRST ROUND SWEEPS, MOVE ON TO SECOND ROUND

Tuesday night brought the first eliminations of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, as the Columbus Blue Jackets posted a four-game sweep of the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Tampa Bay Lightning, and the New York Islanders completed a four-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This marked the first Stanley Cup Playoffs series win in Columbus’ franchise history and was the first time in Stanley Cup Playoffs history that a Presidents’ Trophy winner has been swept in the First Round. CNBC’s 0.55 metered market rating for last night’s Tampa Bay-Columbus series-clinching Game 4 ranks as the highest Round 1 overnight delivery for CNBC/USA on record. The Blue Jackets will face the winner of the Bruins-Maple Leafs series.

The Islanders advance to the Eastern Conference Second Round after successfully sweeping their first Stanley Cup Playoff series since the 1983 Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers. New York will match up against the winner of the series between the Washington Capitals and the Carolina Hurricanes in the Second Round.
