STAMFORD, Conn. – March 12, 2019 – NBC Sports’ “Push for the Playoffs” features five NHL games on NBCSN this week, highlighted by a Wednesday Night Hockey doubleheader beginning at 7 p.m. ET, when Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks visit Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Coverage continues at 9:30 p.m. ET, when Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers host the New Jersey Devils.
This week’s NHL coverage also features a Star Sunday Presented by AT&T doubleheader on NBCSN, which begins at 7:30 p.m. ET when Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins host Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers. Star Sunday shifts west at 10 p.m. ET, when McDavid and the Oilers visit Marc-Andre Fleury and the Vegas Golden Knights.
Crosby and the Penguins will also host Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals tonight at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN in a pivotal Metropolitan Division clash.
BRUINS-PENGUINS ON “STAR SUNDAY” POSTS NBCSN’S BEST SUNDAY NIGHT NHL REGULAR SEASON VIEWERSHIP IN 3+ YEARS
NBC Sports’ presentation of the Boston Bruins vs. Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday night on NBCSN (7:33-10:15 p.m. ET) registered a TAD average of 733,000 viewers to rank as the most-watched NHL regular-season game on NBCSN since the season opener of the 2017-18 season (905,000 for Blues-Penguins, 10/4/17). Bruins-Penguins also ranks as the most-watched Sunday night regular-season game on NBCSN in more than three years (747,000 for Flyers-Rangers, 2/14/16).
WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – BLACKHAWKS-MAPLE LEAFS – 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
Chicago (30-30-9, 69 pts) has won three straight games and remains in the playoff race in the Western Conference, trailing Minnesota (74 pts) by five points for the second Wild Card spot with a game in hand. The Blackhawks earned a key 7-1 win against fellow playoff contender Arizona on Monday night, as Brendan Perlini netted his first career hat trick in the win.
Toronto (42-22-5, 89 pts) currently sits in third place in the Atlantic Division, four points behind the rival Bruins. Toronto lost 6-2 to the league-leading Lightning on Monday, despite Auston Matthews’ 31st goal of the season.
Six-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick (play-by-play), Jeremy Roenick (analyst), and Emmy Award-winner Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’analyst) will have the call from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – DEVILS-OILERS – 9:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
Edmonton (31-31-7, 69 pts) continues to fight for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, tied with Chicago and still trailing Colorado (72 pts) and Arizona (73 pts). The Oilers are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, including a 3-2 overtime win against the Rangers on Monday, as Leon Draisaitl netted his 42nd goal to win the game. New Jersey (25-35-9, 59 pts) faces Calgary tonight and enters the week on a six-game losing streak. Kyle Palmieri leads the Devils with 48 points through 65 games.
2018 Olympic gold medalist Kendall Coyne Schofield will serve as an analyst for NBC Sports’ Devils-Oilers Wednesday Night Hockey telecast. Coyne Schofield made her broadcasting debut as an analyst on Wednesday Night Hockey in January and has also served as a studio analyst for NHL Network.
Coyne Schofield will join Chris Cuthbert (play-by-play) and Ray Ferraro (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) for the call of Devils-Oilers from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
STAR SUNDAY PRESENTED BY AT&T – FLYERS-PENGUINS – 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
The Flyers (34-27-8, 76 pts) continue to battle for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, entering the week three points behind Columbus and Montreal. Philadelphia beat Ottawa, 3-2, on Monday. Claude Giroux, the featured Flyer on Star Sunday, leads the club with 73 points in 69 games.
Pittsburgh (37-23-9, 83 pts) currently holds the first Wild Card spot in the East and is tied with Carolina for third place in the crowded Metro division. The Pens snapped Boston’s 19-game point streak with a 4-2 win on Star Sunday this past weekend. Sidney Crosby, the featured Penguin on Star Sunday, assisted on the eventual game-winning goal and leads the team with 88 points.

The Golden Knights enter the week following a 6-3 loss to Calgary on Sunday. Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, the featured Golden Knight on Star Sunday, has won his last five starts. Connor McDavid, who will be the featured Oiler on Star Sunday, enters the week tied with Patrick Kane for the second-most points in the NHL (98).

CAPITALS-PENGUINS – TONIGHT AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
Washington (41-21-7, 89 pts) rides a seven-game winning streak into Pittsburgh tonight and leads the Metropolitan Division, two points clear of the Islanders. The Capitals beat the Jets, 3-1 on Sunday, as Pheonix Copley made 33 saves in the win. Alex Ovechkin leads the NHL with 46 goals scored this season.
