Olympic Gold Medalist Jessie Diggins Headlines World Nordic Skiing Championships in Austria; Coverage Continues This Week on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA  

STAMFORD, Conn. – February 27, 2019 – Live gymnastics coverage of the American Cup and the Nastia Liukin Cup from Greensboro, North Carolina, highlights extensive Olympic sports programming across NBC Sports this week.

On Saturday, March 2, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA kicks off live coverage of the annual American Cup gymnastics competition from Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. ET. Live coverage continues Saturday at 1 p.m. ET on NBC.

The American Cup is part of the International Gymnastics Federation’s all-around World Cup and showcases some of the world’s best gymnasts in a one-day, all-around competition. In the women’s event, Grace McCallum, a member of the U.S. world team that won gold in 2018, is expected to headline the field, while two-time defending American Cup champion Yul Moldauer and two-time Olympian Sam Mikulak are expected to compete on the men’s side for the U.S.

The weekend’s live gymnastics coverage begins with the 10th annual Nastia Liukin Cup on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA. Founded and hosted by 2008 Olympic all-around gold medalist and NBC Sports gymnastics analyst Nastia Liukin, the Cup is a competition for pre-elite, level 10 gymnasts at the junior and senior level.

Terry Gannon calls the action, joined by Liukin, Olympic gold medalist Tim Daggett and reporter Andrea Joyce. Three-time Olympian John Roethlisberger will join as a reporter for the Nastia Liukin Cup.

WORLD NORDIC SKIING CHAMPIONSHIPS – SEEFELD, AUSTRIA

LIVE COVERAGE CONTINUES TOMORROW, THURSDAY, FEB. 28 AT 5 A.M. ET ON NBC SPORTS GOLD’S “SNOW PASS” AND OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

Live coverage of the World Nordic Skiing Championships continues this week in Seefeld, Austria. Diggins and her Olympic teammates Sadie Bjornsen and Sophia Caldwell are expected to lead the women in the cross-country skiing events. Only five Americans have won a cross-country medal at Worlds, and an American has never won individual gold. The U.S. will also field nordic combined and ski jumping teams this week.

Live coverage of the World Nordic Skiing Championships continues tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 28 with nordic combined at 5 a.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA and NBC Sports Gold’s “Snow Pass.”

ALPINE SKIING WORLD CUP – NORWAY (MEN’S) & RUSSIA (WOMEN’S)

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS FRIDAY, MARCH 1 AT 5 A.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA & NBC SPORTS GOLD’S “SNOW PASS”

The alpine skiing World Cup season continues this weekend with men’s and women’s speed events. Olympians Steven Nyman, Travis Ganong, Bryce Bennett and Ryan Cochran-Siegle are expected to lead the U.S. in the men’s races in Norway. Bennett is the highest-ranked American man in the downhill and overall World Cup standings. Alice Merryweather of the U.S. is expected to compete in the women’s World Cup this weekend in Russia.

TV coverage begins Friday, March 1 at 5 a.m. ET with the men’s downhill on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.  In addition to TV coverage, all races will be available live on NBC Sports Gold’s “Snow Pass.”

 BOBSLED & SKELETON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

TV COVERAGE BEGINS FRIDAY, MARCH 1 AT 10:30 P.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

The bobsled and skeleton World Championships take place this weekend at the site of the 2010 Olympic sliding competitions in Whistler, British Columbia. Elana Meyers Taylor has led the Americans this season, finishing third in the overall World Cup standings after podium finishes at nearly every event in the series, and is likely to contend for the world title. 2010 Olympic gold medalist Justin Olsen and PyeongChang Olympian Codie Bascue have had the best results for the U.S. men this season in bobsled. Meanwhile, 2018 Olympian Kendall Wesenberg is the top American in women’s skeleton after she finished third at the World Cup in Lake Placid, earning the first World Cup medal for a U.S. skeleton athlete in more than two years.

FREESTYLE SKIING WORLD CUP – KAZAKHSTAN & CHINA

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS SATURDAY, MARCH 2 AT 12:30 A.M. ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA & NBC SPORTS GOLD’S “SNOW PASS”

The final moguls and aerials events of the freestyle skiing World Cup season will take place this weekend. Kazakhstan hosts the moguls competitions, in which PyeongChang Olympian Jaelin Kauf is expected to lead the American women. Kauf is ranked third in the women’s moguls World Cup standings. On the men’s side, Olympians Brad Wilson and Casey Andringa should be the top U.S. athletes. At the aerials competition in China, three-time Olympian Ashley Caldwell is expected to lead the American women, while Chris Lillis is the top American man in the aerials World Cup standings.

WORLD TRACK CYCLING CHAMPIONSIPS – PRUSZKOW, POLAND

TV COVERAGE BEGINS TONIGHT AT 8 P.M ET ON OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

The globe’s best track cycling specialists will compete in the most important competition of the season – and one of the oldest, dating back to 1893 in Chicago. Individual pursuit world record holder Ashton Lambie is expected to lead the American men, while three-time defending world champion Jennifer Valente headlines the American women in the team pursuit. Valente also enters Worlds ranked second in the UCI standings in the Omnium, and fourth in the Points Race.

WORLD ALLROUND SPEED SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS – CALGARY, ALBERTA

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS SATURDAY, MARCH 2 AT 2 P.M. ET ON NBC SPORTS GOLD’S “SPEED SKATING PASS”

2018 Olympic team pursuit bronze medalist Carlijn Schoutens and 18-year-old Ethan Cepuran, who recently finished sixth in the 5000m at World Junior Championships, will represent the U.S. this weekend at the World Allround Championships. The Championships consist of four races, with cumulative times determining the final results. Each skater in the men’s competition will race a 500m, 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m, while the women will race a 500m, 1500m, 3000m and a 5000m. Individual times are converted to points; the skater with the fewest points wins.

TOKYO MARATHON

LIVE COVERAGE BEGINS SATURDAY, MARCH 2 AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBC SPORTS GOLD’S “TRACK AND FIELD PASS” & OLYMPIC CHANNEL: HOME OF TEAM USA

For the third consecutive year since introducing a new course in 2017, the Tokyo Marathon is expected to be flat and fast. Two-time Tokyo Marathon champion Dickson Chumba of Kenya is expected to be the favorite. The route is similar to the one that will be used at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
