Penguins-Flyers on NBC Delivers Best NHL Stadium Series Overnight Rating Since 2014

STAMFORD, Conn. – February 25, 2019 – NBC Sports presents seven NHL games in seven days this week highlighted by three games featuring Steven Stamkos and the league-leading Tampa Bay Lightning, including the first game of a Wednesday Night Hockey doubleheader at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN against Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers. Wednesday Night Hockey continues at 10 p.m. ET, when Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks visit Ryan Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks.

The Lightning kick off this week’s NHL coverage tonight when they host Drew Doughty and the Los Angeles Kings at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, and will travel to Boston on Thursday to face Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

NBC Sports will showcase a doubleheader on Star Sunday Presented by AT&T, beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC, when Nicklas Backstrom and the Washington Capitals visit Mika Zibanejad and the Rangers. Star Sunday shifts to NBCSN at 7:30 p.m. ET, when Ryan Suter and the Minnesota Wild host Filip Forsberg and the Nashville Predators.

Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers will host Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET to round out this week’s NHL coverage on NBC and NBCSN. Additionally, No. 18 Penn State visits No. 17 Notre Dame in Big Ten college hockey action on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – LIGHTNING-RANGERS – 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Tampa Bay (47-11-4, 98 pts) continues to be the class of the NHL during the 2018-19 regular season. The Lightning have won eight straight games and are 13 points ahead of the nearest team in the standings (Calgary; 85 pts). Tampa Bay is coming off a 2-1 shootout win against the Sabres on Feb. 21. Nikita Kucherov scored his 30th goal in the win, giving him 100 points on the season to become the first player since Mario Lemieux to reach 100 points in 62 or fewer games (1996-97; 61 games).

The Rangers (27-26-9, 63 pts) enter the week nine points behind Carolina for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. New York is coming off a 6-5 overtime loss to Washington on Sunday, as Brady Skjei scored twice for the Rangers.

Kenny Albert (play-by-play), U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk (analyst), and Emmy Award-winner Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Madison Square Garden in New York. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. ET with NHL Live, hosted by Liam McHugh alongside Mike Milbury, Keith Jones and Bob McKenzie.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – BLACKHAWKS-DUCKS – 10 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Chicago (26-28-9, 61 pts) is coming off back-to-back losses to Dallas and Colorado, both of whom are battling with the Blackhawks in the crowded Western Conference playoff picture. Chicago fell to Dallas, 4-3, on Sunday.

Anaheim (24-29-9, 57 pts) enters the week following a 2-1 loss to Edmonton on Saturday. The Ducks have struggled offensively and are currently the lowest scoring team in the league (2.19 goals per game). Anaheim visits the Canucks tonight.

Alex Faust (play-by-play) and Brian Hayward (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

STAR SUNDAY PRESENTED BY AT&T – CAPITALS-RANGERS AT 12:30 P.M. ET ON NBC

The Capitals (35-21-7, 77 pts) continue to challenge for the Metropolitan Division lead, entering the week two points behind the N.Y. Islanders. Washington defeated the Rangers in overtime, 6-5 this past Sunday. Nicklas Backstrom, who will be the featured Capital on Star Sunday, scored twice in the win.

Six-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick (play-by-play), Olczyk (analyst), and McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from New York. McHugh, Milbury and Jones will handle studio coverage.

STAR SUNDAY PRESENTED BY AT&T – PREDATORS-WILD AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Nashville (36-23-5, 77 pts) enters the week one point behind Winnipeg for the lead in the Central Division. The Predators are coming off a 5-0 loss to Colorado on Saturday. Filip Forsberg, the featured Predator on Star Sunday, ranks second on the Preds in goals (21).

Minnesota (30-27-6, 66 pts) currently holds the second Wild Card spot in the West, one point clear of Colorado, three points ahead of Arizona, and five points ahead of Chicago. Minnesota earned a pivotal 2-1 overtime win against the Blues on Sunday on NBCSN, as Ryan Donato scored his first goal as a member of the Wild in overtime.

John Forslund (play-by-play) and Brian Boucher (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. ET with NHL Live, hosted by Kathryn Tappen alongside Patrick Sharp and Jones.

KINGS-LIGHTNING – TONIGHT AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Los Angeles (23-32-6, 52 pts) is winless in its last seven games (0-5-2) and currently sits in last place in the Western Conference. The Kings fell in Florida, 6-1, on Saturday, and Jonathan Quick allowed six goals on 23 shots before being pulled in the third period. Tampa defeated Los Angeles, 6-2, on Jan. 3 in Los Angeles.

Philadelphia (29-26-7, 65 pts) and Buffalo (29-24-8, 66 pts) face off on Tuesday fighting to remain in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference, as they both chase Pittsburgh and Carolina (72 pts). The Flyers are coming off a thrilling 4-3 overtime win in the 2019 NHL Stadium Series over the Penguins. Jakub Voracek scored late in the third period to force overtime and Claude Giroux netted the game-winner in the extra session. The Sabres are coming off a 5-2 win against Washington on Saturday, led by Sam Reinhart’s hat trick. Buffalo faces Toronto tonight.

LIGHTNING-BRUINS – THURSDAY AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Boston (36-17-9, 81 pts) and Tampa Bay boast identical 8-0-2 records in their last 10 games entering the week. The Bruins fell to St. Louis in a shootout, 2-1, on Saturday. The Lightning beat the Bruins in their most recent encounter on Dec. 6 by a score of 3-2.

The Nittany Lions (18-12-2) split their weekend series at home against Wisconsin. Penn State’s Alex Limoges is tied for fourth in the country with 40 points (16g/24a).

PENGUINS-FLYERS ON NBC DELIVERS BEST NHL STADIUM SERIES OVERNIGHT RATING SINCE 2014

NBC Sports’ presentation of the 2019 NHL Stadium Series on Saturday night on NBC, featuring the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, delivered the best overnight rating (1.38) for a Stadium Series game since 2014. Locally, Saturday night’s game on NBC delivered the highest ratings ever in Pittsburgh (16.9) and Philadelphia (6.3) for a Penguins or Flyers regular-season game, excluding Winter Classics.
