NBCSN TO TELEVISE SPORTS ILLUSTRATED SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR AWARDS THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13 AT 9 PM ET

SI’s Annual Awards Nationally Televised as One-Hour Special

 

Sports Illustrated and JASH to Co-Produce the Show

 

Red Carpet Show Hosted by Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie Model Camille Kostek and SI’s Charlotte Wilder to Stream on SI.com and SI social channels

 

STAMFORD, Conn. – November 19, 2018 – NBCSN presents Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards Thursday, December 13 at 9 pm ET. Produced by Sports Illustrated (SI) and JASH, the annual awards show will be nationally televised as a one-hour special for the second consecutive year.

 

The award show presents honors in six categories: Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year, Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, SportsKid of the Year, and three separate awards given to athletes who inspired, amazed and surprised the entire sports universe in 2018.

 

The honor of Sportsperson of the Year is given to the athlete, coach, or team who best exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship and achievement, while inspiring others on and off the field. Last year’s winners were the Houston Texans’ J.J. Watt and the Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve. Previous SI Sportsperson of the Year recipients have included LeBron James, Serena Williams, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Billie Jean King, Michael Phelps and the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team.

 

SI.com and SI’s social channels will also stream a special pre-awards red carpet show on Thursday, December 13 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The show will be hosted by Sports Illustrated Swimsuit rookie and winner of 2018’s model search, Camille Kostek, and SI’s Charlotte Wilder, host of SI TV’s “The Wilder Project” and SI’s “Most Valuable Podcast.”

 

The Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year honor has been presented annually since 1954, the year the brand’s magazine launched. Executive Producers of the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards show are Steve Cannella, Robert Morton, Josh Oshinsky and Ian Orefice.

 

NBCSN will air an encore presentation of Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards Sunday, December 16 at 10 p.m. ET. Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards will be held at the Beverly Hills Hilton in Los Angeles on Tuesday, December 11.
