STAMFORD, Conn. – October 23, 2018 – NBC Sports brings Wednesday Night Hockey north of the border to Winnipeg this week, as star forwards Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine headline a Canadian clash between the Eastern Conference-leading Toronto Maple Leafs and the Winnipeg Jets at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN – the first-ever NHL regular-season game featuring two Canadian teams to be produced by NBC Sports.

Leafs-Jets kicks off a Wednesday Night Hockey doubleheader that continues at 9:30 p.m. ET, when Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning visit Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche, as viewers will be treated to four teams on Wednesday with a combined 23-7-4 record to start the season.

Pre-game coverage begins with a special on-site edition of NHL Live at 6 p.m. ET, hosted by Kathryn Tappen alongside analysts Keith Jones and Jeremy Roenick, and NHL insider Bob McKenzie from True North Square outside of Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Pre-game coverage will feature an interview between Roenick and Laine, as well as interviews with Matthews and John Tavares.

Six-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and former Winnipeg Jet and Toronto Maple Leaf Eddie Olczyk, and ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Brian Boucher will have the call of Maple Leafs-Jets.

NBCSN’s weekly NHL coverage begins tonight at 8 p.m. ET, as recently-acquired defenseman Erik Karlsson and the San Jose Sharks visit P.K. Subban and the league-leading Nashville Predators. Pre-game coverage begins with NHL Live at 7 p.m. ET. Paul Burmeister will host NHL Live alongside analysts Anson Carter and Keith Jones.

Additionally, NBC Sports will present a college hockey clash featuring a rematch of last year’s national championship game, when the No. 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the No. 3 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – MAPLE LEAFS-JETS AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Maple Leafs (6-3-0) and Jets (6-2-1) have stormed out to fast starts in the 2018-19 season. Auston Matthews paces the NHL with 16 points and 10 goals to lead Toronto to the best record in the Eastern Conference. Through nine games, Toronto is tied for the league lead in goals (34), and has scored five-or-more goals in three games this season.

Led by Laine, the Jets have won three consecutive games, including a 5-4 come-from-behind overtime win against St. Louis on Monday night. Mark Scheifele scored twice and added two assists in the win for the Jets.

MIKE ‘DOC’ EMRICK CALLS FIRST GAME IN WINNIPEG SINCE DEC. 29, 1995, IN WHICH CURRENT PARTNER EDDIE OLCZYK SCORED FOR JETS

Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick travels to Manitoba to call his first game in Winnipeg since Dec. 29, 1995, when he served as the New Jersey Devils play-by-play commentator. The Jets defeated the Devils, 5-3, courtesy of a five-goal third period which began with a power-play goal from then-Jets forward and Emrick’s current broadcast partner Eddie Olczyk. Olczyk played parts of five seasons with the Jets (1990-93 and 1994-96), as well parts of four seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs (1987-91).

WNH DOUBLEHEADER – LIGHTNING-AVALANCHE AT 9:30 P.M. ET

One of the top defensive teams in the league, the Lightning have started the season with a 5-1-1 record, including a 6-3 rout of the Blackhawks on Sunday. Tampa Bay had 33 shots in the second period against Chicago, the most in a single period since shots by period became an official statistic in 1997-98. Brayden Point paces the Lightning in both points (eight) and goals (five).

The Avalanche have had an equally impressive start to the 2018-19 season, boasting a 6-1-2 record in their first nine games. Mikko Rantanen is tied for the NHL lead in points (16), and just behind him in third is teammate Nathan MacKinnon (15). The Avs are coming off a 4-1 win against the Flyers, paced by a pair of goals from Rantanen. MacKinnon and Rantanen have each recorded a point in every game this season, starting their campaigns on nine-game point streaks.”

Chris Cuthbert (play-by-play) and Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.

SHARKS-PREDATORS – TUESDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Sharks have rattled off a pair of wins by a combined score of 9-2 after beginning the season 2-3-1. Tomas Hertl registered three assists in San Jose’s 4-1 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday.

The Predators (7-1-0) boast the league’s best record and have won five consecutive games. Nashville has allowed the second-fewest goals (15) through eight games. Filip Forsberg paces the team in both points (eight) and goals (five). Defenseman P.K. Subban recorded his first career shorthanded goal against the Oilers on Saturday.

John Forslund (play-by-play) and Jamie Baker (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

COLLEGE HOCKEY – NO. 1 NOTRE DAME VS. NO 3. MINNESOTA DULUTH

NBC Sports begins its Notre Dame college hockey coverage this week with a rematch of last year’s championship game, as the top-ranked Fighting Irish host the third-ranked Bulldogs in a pair of games, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Notre Dame (3-0-1) is coming off a pair of wins against Nebraska-Omaha, while the Bulldogs have won four straight games, sweeping series with Michigan Tech and Maine. Saturday night’s contest will be streamed exclusively on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app at 5 p.m. ET.

Steve Schlanger (play-by-play) and Anson Carter (analyst) will call Friday night’s game from Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind.
