On Saturday’s Day 3 at the Presidents Cup

Brandel Chamblee – “Why do we watch sports? Why are sports so captivating? Because they give us such vivid examples of excellence. And nothing does that like a runaway victory.”

Chamblee – “This might be the most perfect team ever assembled. The way they combine and accompany themselves, this could be it.”

David Duval – “Excellence is never boring and what we are watching is excellence. We are watching the young generation of U.S. players coming together with a single-minded goal and absolutely plowing through another team of 12 – let’s not forget – world class great golfers. And so far they have made it look like a hot knife through butter.”

Rich Lerner – “It is a runaway of epic proportions.”

Duval – “Enjoy it for what it is because this might very well be the extension of American team golf for the next 10, 15, 20 years.”

Duval – “When you are putting out Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth and they are getting out there and doing what they are meant to do. Not only are they getting a point on the board but they are inspiring their team behind them.”

Duval – “For all of the talk we have of the U.S. team steamrolling right now, I love seeing the fight, the desire, the commitment the International team has.”

Duval – “Lahiri’s putt on the 17th hole was the putt of the week. Period. Ensured that the Presidents Cup did not end on Saturday.”

Duval – “If you want to talk about buzz saws, like they have needed to clean up some storms going through Florida, this is what we’re seeing. Buzz saw.”

Lerner – “Dinners in the city have been terrific, the views breath taking, the crowds colorful and boisterous. All that’s missing is all that matters. Drama.”

On Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed

Duval – “When you go out and you have a duo like Spieth and Reed and they say ‘We simply try to go beat each other.’ Sorry, good luck. They are competing against each other. What a formula. It is brilliant.”

Chamblee – “These guys both recognize that great shots are more important than great golf swings.”

On Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas

Chamblee – “They are phenomenal scramblers which means they can take chances and risks. Both of them know that if they make a mistake, the other one is there to back them up.”

Duval – “We are seeing this new guard that has no fear, they are not afraid to miss shots because they know they are going to get up and down because their partner is going to pick them up.”

U.S. Team Captain Steve Stricker speaking with Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis

Steve Stricker – “It was unbelievable again today. These three days of golf from our guys on the U.S. team was really special. They played great. Sometimes they golf off to poor starts, especially this afternoon, it didn’t look like the way it ended up again. They just keep fighting and clawing and made some great shots and key putts when they had to. They are resilient guys and they don’t like to lose I guess. They put on another great show again today.”

Stricker – “We’ve got to get one point. That is a great position to be in. And that’s what I’m going to tell them. But it’s not over yet and we just got to take care of business. These guys are so confident. We’re in a great spot.”
