NOTABLE QUOTES: GOLF CENTRAL LIVE FROM THE PRESIDENTS CUP (FRIDAY PRIMETIME)

Golf Channel Notable Quotes
Golf Central Live From The Presidents Cup (Primetime)
Friday, Sept. 29, 2017
Liberty National Golf Club, Jersey City, N.J.

**The United States lead the International team 8-2 at the 2017 Presidents Cup. Day 3 will get underway on Saturday at 8 a.m. ET on NBC with 4 foursomes matches, and will continue with 4 four-ball matches in the afternoon.**

Saturday’s Day 3 Foursomes Matches:

Patrick Reed/Jordan Spieth vs. Jason Day/Marc Leishman

Dustin Johnson/Matt Kuchar vs. Adam Hadwin/Adam Scott

Kevin Kisner/Phil Mickelson vs. Emiliano Grillo/Jhonattan Vegas

Rickie Fowler/Justin Thomas vs. Branden Grace/Louis Oosthuizen

On Day 2 Four-ball matches

Rich Lerner – “Right now the Internationals are trying to stop a 747 with a butterfly net. It’s not going to work… Right now it feels a little like Alabama against Vanderbilt.”

David Duval – “They had a disastrous session. We’re only two sessions in, but you’re almost looking at an insurmountable problem they face at this point… There is a conceivable scenario that it’s over before Sunday singles starts. And that is just unfathomable to me.”

Brandel Chamblee – “Great match play players can be a little wild off the tee. You start to think of an Ian Poulter or a Seve Ballesteros. But they have to be great putters. Great match play players are the ones that stab you right in the heart when you least expect it. And that’s really the biggest problem that Nick Price has, is he has basically an entire team that is average on the greens with the exception of one or two players… The International side needs a Seve, they need it. And they haven’t ever really had it.”

Duval – “You’re watching a group of young American super studs who are tired of watching what has happened for the past 20 years, and they are just flexing their muscle.”

Chamblee – “When you consider that when you play on foreign soil, it’s a five point disadvantage before it even started… On paper it was a mismatch.”

Duval – “The depth of the American team really truly showed itself today. The differentiation in world rank and putting showed itself today.”

On Phil Mickelson

Chamblee – “It’s been great to watch Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods grow into this elder statesman role that they have… They’ve got this youthful exuberance where they’re just having a blast, then they have this veteran clear headed-ness that inspires them, motivates them and gives them great leadership.”

Duval – “What I see is not only Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, but let’s not forget Steve Stricker, Davis Love, Jim Furyk passing down experiences from their playing days and their 20 years of doing these team competitions that I’m not so sure it was passed down as smoothly as it has been to this generation from the previous generation… They’re so invested in this and the future of American golf in Presidents Cups, Ryder Cups so that this tide can turn.”

On Day 3 Foursomes matches

Duval – “As a fan of golf we want to see some good matches tomorrow, and potentially some International victories frankly. But… the International side is simply not playing as well as the American side, and when you get into the heat of the battle in these competitions, if you’re not playing as well you get exposed.”
