Bruins-Penguins WNR Matchup on Dec. 14 is NBCSN’s Most-Watched NHL Game Since Opening Night

STAMFORD, Conn. – Dec. 19, 2016 – NBCSN presents a rematch from the first round of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs this week on Wednesday Night Rivalry, when Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers host Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals this Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.

NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app — NBC Sports Group’s live streaming platforms for desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs — will provide live streaming coverage of Caps-Flyers.

Four-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick (play-by-play), U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk (analyst), and Emmy Award-winner Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass analyst) will call Caps-Flyers from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Pre-game coverage on Wednesday begins at 7 p.m. ET with NHL Live. Liam McHugh anchors Wednesday Night Rivalry studio coverage with analysts Mike Milbury and Keith Jones, as well as NHL insider Darren Dreger. Post-game coverage on NHL Overtime will air on NBCSN immediately following this week’s games.


WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIVALRY – CAPITALS-FLYERS – 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Washington and Philadelphia clash this week on Wednesday Night Rivalry in their first meeting since last season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs, when the Capitals defeated the Flyers in six games in their first-round series.

The Flyers (19-11-3, 41 pts) have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the past month, only to have their 10-game winning streak finally snapped by the Stars in Dallas on Saturday. Philadelphia’s offense has keyed the team’s surge, led by the trio of Jakub Voracek (33 pts), Claude Giroux (30 pts), and Wayne Simmonds (29 pts), who all rank in the Top 20 in the NHL in points.

Washington (19-8-3, 41 pts) enters the week following a 2-1 loss to the Atlantic Division-leading Canadiens on Saturday, snapping their six-game winning streak. The Capitals’ defense has stepped up the past two weeks, allowing just 14 goals in the team’s last eight games (6-1-1). Washington has allowed the third-fewest goals this season (64), while the Flyers have scored the third-most goals (103).

BRUINS-PENGUINS WNR MATCHUP ON DEC. 14 IS NBCSN’S MOST-WATCHED NHL GAME SINCE OPENING NIGHT

Last week’s Wednesday Night Rivalry matchup between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins on NBCSN averaged 705,000 viewers to rank as the network’s most-watched NHL telecast since opening night (STL-CHI; 905,000 viewers).

Pittsburgh led all local markets with a 7.7 rating for the Penguins’ 4-3 overtime victory on NBCSN. Boston produced a 3.3 local rating.
