NBCSN POSTS BEST MONTH EVER IN AUGUST, HIGHLIGHTED BY 2016 RIO OLYMPICS

U.S. Men’s Basketball Rio Olympic Opener vs. China was NBCSN’s Most-Watched Event of Month with 3.8 Million Viewers

NBCSN’s Arsenal-Liverpool Was Most-Watched Opening Weekend Premier League Cable Match Ever with 745,000 Viewers

STAMFORD, Conn. – September 1, 2016 – Buoyed by record viewership for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the kickoff of the 2016-17 Premier League season, and continued NASCAR coverage, NBCSN in August had the best month in the network’s history in Total Day (6 a.m.-6 a.m.) viewership and key demographics, according to live plus same day data for the month (July 31-August 28) released by The Nielsen Company.

In addition, NBCSN ranked #1 among all sports cable networks in August in Total Day average viewership (509,000), Adult 25-54 viewership (214,000 viewers), and Adult 18-49 viewership (202,000 viewers).

NBCSN’s Total Day viewership more than doubled last August’s viewership, and was up 6% from the network’s prior best month (480,000 viewers during the Sochi Olympics in Feb. 2014).

NBCSN also had its best-ever August in primetime in average viewers (764,000), Adults 25-54 (335,000 viewers), and Adults 18-49 (314,000 viewers).

The U.S. Men’s Basketball team’s 119-62 victory over China in its Rio Olympics opener on August 6 was the network’s most-watched event of the month, averaging 3.8 million viewers.

In addition:

  • NBCSN, the home of Team USA during the 2016 Rio Olympics, was the #1 sports cable network in primetime over the 14 days it presented live extended primetime Rio 2016 coverage (7 p.m.-midnight ET) with an average of 1.32 million viewers from Sat., Aug. 6 – Fri., Aug. 19.
  • NBCSN’s Arsenal-Liverpool match on Sunday, Aug. 14 averaged 745,000 viewers – marking the most-watched Premier League opening weekend match ever on U.S. cable television.
  • Last Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Michigan averaged 3.4 million viewers, to rank as the most watched cable sports program of the week.
