ORLANDO, Fla. (July 19, 2016) – On the heels of one of the most memorable major championship final rounds in recent memory, NBC Sports Group will continue its stretch of major championship golf this summer – in partnership with The R&A – this week with live coverage of The Senior Open from Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland. Golf Channel and NBC will combine to televise nearly 20 live hours of coverage, with Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie and John Daly headlining the field. France’s Jean Van de Velde also is in the field after turning 50 earlier this year and making his inaugural PGA TOUR Champions debut earlier this month before returning to Carnoustie this week, the venue which provided the backdrop for his memorable collapse in the 1999 Open. The LPGA Tour is outside Chicago this week for the 2nd edition of the UL International Crown, an international match play team competition among eight different countries, each with four of its highest ranked players. The eight countries are split into two pools and will compete in three days of four-ball matches with the top two countries from each pool and one wild card country advancing to a final day of singles matches. Countries represented include: Australia, China, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), England, Japan, Korea, Thailand and the United States. The PGA TOUR is in Ontario for the RBC Canadian Open, where world No. 1 Jason Day will defend his 2015 title. More than 80 celebrities will compete in the annual American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, with a field that includes Steph Curry, Justin Timberlake, Charles Barkley and Aaron Rodgers. And the Web.com Tour stages the 25th edition of the Utah Championship, airing live and in primetime on the East Coast.

Van de Velde making senior major debut at site of unforgettable 1999 Open collapse: Frenchman Jean Van de Velde is set to make his first start in a senior major this week after turning 50 earlier this year. Van de Velde, who made his PGA TOUR Champions debut earlier this month at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, will tee it up at the same site of his most memorable career moment, where he unforgettably surrendered the lead at The 1999 Open (also at Carnoustie) before ultimately falling in a playoff.
Langer enters week with fond memories of Carnoustie: Bernhard Langer, who currently holds a large lead in the Charles Schwab Cup Money List, also returns to Carnoustie with fond memories. Langer claimed The Senior Open in 2010 when it was last staged at Carnoustie, winning by one shot over Corey Pavin. This week Langer also will attempt to join Jack Nicklaus as the only players to win three PGA TOUR Champions majors in the same season, and will look to tie Nicklaus for the most-career PGA TOUR Champions majors. Langer currently holds seven, and Nicklaus has eight.
Watson returns to site of 1975 Open victory: Tom Watson, who earned the title “Champion Golfer of the Year” on five occasions during his career returns to Carnoustie, site of his 1975 victory where he claimed the Claret Jug by virtue of a playoff over Jack Newton.

Headlining the field: Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, John Daly, Tom Watson, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Jean Van de Velde, Marco Dawson, Mark O’Meara and Jesper Parnevik.
