NBC Sports Radio to Serve as Exclusive National Terrestrial Radio Partner for 2016 Stanley Cup Final

STAMFORD, Conn. – May 30, 2016 – NBC Sports begins exclusive coverage of the Stanley Cup Final for the 11th consecutive year tonight at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, when Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins host Joe Thornton and the San Jose Sharks in Game 1 of the 2016 Stanley Cup Final from CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Pre-game coverage begins tonight at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN with a special two-hour edition of NHL Live.

Four-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and analyst Eddie Olczyk, and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will call the 2016 Stanley Cup Final on NBC and NBCSN. This marks the 10th consecutive year that Emrick, Olczyk and McGuire will combine to call the Stanley Cup Final for NBC Sports.

Host Liam McHugh will anchor pre-game, intermission and studio coverage on-site throughout the series, alongside analysts and former players Mike Milbury and Keith Jones. In addition, Kathryn Tappen and Dave Briggs and will host coverage from outside sets in Pittsburgh and San Jose, alongside analysts and former players Jeremy Roenick, Brian Boucher, and Anson Carter.

STANLEY CUP FINAL GAME 1 – SHARKS-PENGUINS – TONIGHT AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBC

The Pittsburgh Penguins advanced to their first Stanley Cup Final since 2009 with a 2-1 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final, as Bryan Rust scored both goals for Pittsburgh and Matt Murray stopped 16 of 17 shots. Sidney Crosby led the Penguins in the regular season with 36 goals, and netted three game-winning goals in the Eastern Conference Final. Phil Kessel has been a difference-maker offensively for Pittsburgh, leading the club with nine goals in the playoffs. This marks Kessel’s first Stanley Cup Final appearance, but he has been a consistent playoff performer, totaling 39 points in 40 career postseason games.

The San Jose Sharks are making their first-ever Stanley Cup Final appearance in the franchise’s 25th season. Veteran forwards Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau will make their first Stanley Cup Final appearances, and have combined for 3,093 NHL games and 2,610 points in their careers. Thornton and Marleau were the 1st and 2nd overall selections in the 1997 NHL Draft, which was held in Pittsburgh.

The Sharks (3.50 goals per game) and Penguins (3.22 goals per game) enter the Final as the top two offenses in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Joe Pavelski leads all skaters with 13 goals, while Logan Couture has amassed the most points thus far (24).
