STAMFORD, Conn. – May 19, 2016 – NBC Sports Group’s live coverage of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California continues this afternoon at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN with Stage 5, and culminates with Stage 8 this Sunday at 4 p.m. ET on NBC.
Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx – Quick-Step), who finished second in last year’s Amgen Tour of California, is the current overall leader. Peter Stetina (Trek–Segafredo) is currently in second place and trails Alaphilippe by 22 seconds, with George Bennett (BMC) in third at 37 seconds behind Alaphilippe.
The Amgen Tour of California covers nearly 800 miles of California’s scenic terrain, continuing today through South Lake Tahoe, and heading to Folsom and Santa Rosa before concluding in Sacramento.
NBC Sports Group will air highlights of the women’s race, which began today in South Lake Tahoe, throughout the remainder of its coverage of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California. NBCSN will present a comprehensive highlight show featuring robust coverage of the women’s race on Friday, May 27, at 1:30 a.m. ET.
Highlighting the women’s field are two-time Olympic time trial gold medalist and two-time world champion Kristin Armstrong (Twenty16-RideBiker), Olympian and three-time team time trial world champion Evelyn Stevens (Boels–Dolmans); and UCI rankings leader Emma Johansson (Wiggle-High5).
Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwen and 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge winner Christian Vande Velde call the action along with reporter Steve Schlanger. ‘Inside-the-Race’ correspondent Steve Porino reports from aboard a motorcycle on the course, and offers updates on race situations. Jens Voigt, who has three top-10 Tour of California finishes to his name, returns as an analyst and reporter after making his debut at the event last year.
