NOTABLE QUOTES – GOLF CENTRAL LIVE FROM THE PLAYERS, SATURDAY (7:30 P.M. ET)

Golf Channel Notable Quotes
Golf Central Live From THE PLAYERS
Saturday, May 14, 2016 (7:30-9:30 p.m. ET, first hour)
TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course), Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Jason Day (14-under, leader) speaking with Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis following his round
Jason Day – “I don’t think I hit it that bad… Some of the pin locations were just a little iffy with how quick the greens were. The greens got a little bit out of hand on the front side… It’s supposed to be tough I guess, it was just a drastic change from Thursday-Friday and kind of took us all by surprise… I’ve never gotten over putts where I’ve had to lag a 10 foot putt and just try and get it somewhere near the hole and not really think about holing a putt. That’s the first time in my career that I’ve ever played that way. It’s not fun… I never really got comfortable on the greens at all.”

On the change in course conditions for Saturday’s third round vs. the first two rounds
Brandel Chamblee – “We went from scoring records to scarring records. This golf course was for 24 or 48 hours as forgiving as your grandmother. Then over the last 24 hours for no obvious reason it became as forbidding as the prison warden in The Shawshank Redemption.”
David Duval – “I’ve tried to think back to if I’ve ever seen a golf course itself change like this from one day to the next, and I don’t think I can… The [players] were absolutely blindsided by this, they didn’t expect it at all… It’s a shock to the system more than anything. It’s like they brought in a new set of greens overnight.”

On Day
Chamblee – “It takes a lot to keep that razor that sharp day-in and day-out but guess what, power and touch is a formidable combination. Seve had it, Tiger Woods has it. And right now Jason Day leads this field in driving distance and he leads this field in scrambling. And you’re just not going to beat a man who’s that good off of the tee and that good around the greens.”

On Hideki Matsuyama (10-under, T-2nd
Frank Nobilo – “An average-to-good putter, that’s normally the best we’ve ever said about Hideki Matsuyama. Today [he was] extremely good on very difficult greens.”
Chamblee – “His form was certainly on display today. So many times today with tough hole locations, he was able to get it beneath the hole.”

On Ken Duke’s (10-under, T-2nd) 7-under 65 in the third round
Duval – “He played an amazing round of golf today. It shows that it could be done, although it was almost impossible out there.”
Chamblee – “The round of his life.”
