NOTABLE QUOTES – GOLF CENTRAL LIVE FROM THE PLAYERS, FRIDAY (8 P.M. ET)

Golf Channel Notable Quotes
Golf Central Live From THE PLAYERS
Friday, May 13, 2016 (8-10 p.m. ET, first hour)
TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course), Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

On Jason Day (14-under, leader)
Brandel Chamblee – “This golf course is allowing him to do things that we raised red flags about. His lack of precision off of the tee, greens in regulation, proximity to the hole. But what he is doing is hitting it nine miles and when he makes a mistake he’s chipping it inside of four feet. He’s pitching it out of the bunker inside of three feet. It’s miraculous what he’s doing, and it’s likely to keep on going because the rough is not going to grow out here and I don’t see the golf course getting any firmer over the next few days.”
David Duval – “He doesn’t look beatable. It’s actually a joy to watch. It’s a pleasure to see somebody with such power, such finesse, such touch and such a tremendous mind game.”

On Rory McIlroy (8-under, T-12th)
Chamblee – “He seems to be playing his worst golf when he’s in position to play his best golf. He’s playing his best golf when he’s out of position or he’s following a poor round. That leads me to believe that he’s feeling the pressure. He was never going to be anything but the No. 1 player of this generation once Tiger abdicated the throne. But here comes Jason Day and Jordan Spieth saying ‘not so fast.’”
Frank Nobilo – “It shows you what an injury can do. The ankle injury, we’re only 12 months removed from that… Every player wants to get back as quick as they can. I think a lot of those swing faults that crept in, a lot of those shots he’s fighting are still the residue of coming back perhaps a little earlier than he would have liked. And that explains the hit and miss, good one week and not so good the next week. That inconsistency.”
Duval – “The bar we saw with Rory McIlroy in 2014 got raised [by Jason Day] in 2015.”

On Shane Lowry (11-under, 2nd)
Nobilo – “The look that’s the beard and the smile and even the scruffy demeanor really disguises an amazing player. Tee-to-green he’s brilliant. And come [the] Ryder Cup, he’s going to be one player the Americans will be looking at wherever he is in that draw.”

On Jordan Spieth (1-under, T-75th )
Chamblee – “I don’t think I’ve ever seen him have as much trouble around the greens. I certainly don’t remember him through every single putt struggle as much as he has. So that part of his game that he’s been able to lean on, he has not been able to lean on through the first two rounds.”
Nobilo – “I actually think it’s still an important cut for him to make… I think it would sort of just calm people down a little bit. Because you sure as hell know if he misses the cut this weekend everybody’s going to say let’s go back to what happened [at the Masters], and we know what happened… So he wants to stop that tide as quickly as possible.”
