Penguins-Capitals and Blues-Stars Game 2 Matchups on NBC Produce Local Ratings Milestones

STAMFORD, Conn. – May 2, 2016 – NBC Sports Group continues its coverage of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a pivotal Game 3 matchup tonight on NBCSN, when Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins host Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals at 8 p.m. ET with the series deadlocked at one game apiece.

Three-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and analyst Eddie Olczyk, and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will call the game from CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Tonight’s pre-game coverage begins with NHL Live at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN, hosted by Kathryn Tappen alongside analysts and former players Mike Milbury and Keith Jones.

GAME 3 – (1) CAPITALS AT (2) PENGUINS – TONIGHT AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN – SERIES TIED 1-1

Pittsburgh bounced back with a 2-1 victory in Game 2 on Saturday night on NBC to even their series with the Capitals at 1-1. Former Capital Eric Fehr netted the game-winning goal for the Penguins on a deflection with 4:28 remaining in regulation, and Pittsburgh goaltender Matt Murray stopped 23 of 24 shots. Alex Ovechkin has now gone five straight games without a goal, tied for his longest streak without a goal during this regular season or postseason. The last time the two clubs met in Pittsburgh, the Penguins chased Caps goalie Braden Holtby with five goals en route to a 6-2 win on March 20; the six goals were the most Washington allowed in a game this season.


PENGUINS-CAPITALS AND BLUES-STARS GAME 2 MATCHUPS ON NBC PRODUCE LOCAL RATINGS MILESTONES

  • St. Louis – The Blues’ 4-3 overtime win against the Stars on Sunday afternoon (3-6:30 p.m. ET) is now the highest-rated Blues game ever on NBC in the St. Louis market. The Game 2 win produced a 15.8 rating in the market, up 46% vs. Blues-Blackhawks Game 3 from the first round on April 17 (10.8). NBC was the No. 1 network in the market during the game;

 

  • Dallas – Yesterday’s Game 2 matchup delivered a 2.9 rating in Dallas to rank as the highest-rated Stars game in the market on NBC in eight years, since the 2008 Western Conference Final (5/17/08 vs. Detroit; 4.0);

 

  • Pittsburgh – The Pens’ 2-1 win on Saturday night in primetime on NBC delivered a 17.3 rating in Pittsburgh to rank as the network’s highest-rated game in the market in three years, since the 2013 Eastern Conference Final (6/1/13 vs. Boston; 23.2). NBC was the No. 1 network in the market in the time period;

 

  • Washington – Saturday night’s Game 2 vs. the Penguins was the highest-rated Caps game in Washington on NBC in four years, since the 2012 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal, with a 6.9 rating (4/22/12 vs. Boston; 8.7). Saturday night’s 6.9 rating is up 77% vs. Game 2 of the Caps-Rangers series on NBC in last year’s Second Round (3.9). NBC was the No. 1 network in the market in the time period;

 

  • Nashville – Last night’s Predators-Sharks Game 2 on NBCSN delivered a 3.0 rating to rank as the highest-rated game on NBCSN in the market in four years (5/7/12 vs. Phoenix; 4.7). NBCSN was the No. 1 cable market in the network in the 8-10:45 p.m. ET time period. The game delivered a 2.4 rating in San Jose.
