Stanley Cup Playoff Coverage on Cable Up 13% vs. 2015

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 19, 2016 – NBC Sports Group will present four NHL Stanley Cup Playoff games tonight, beginning with a doubleheader at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN and USA Network, as the (3) Detroit Red Wings host the (2) Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 of their first-round series, and the (2) New York Rangers and (3) Pittsburgh Penguins clash in Game 3 at Madison Square Garden with their series tied 1-1.

Coverage on NBCSN and USA Network continues at 9:30 p.m. ET with a pair of Western Conference showdown. The (3) Chicago Blackhawks will host the (2) St. Louis Blues in Game 4 as Chicago looks to even their series, while the (1) Anaheim Ducks visit the (WC1) Nashville Predators in Game 3, looking to avoid a 3-0 series deficit.

Pre-game coverage of tonight’s matchups begins at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN with NHL Live, leading into Game 3 of Lightning-Red Wings.

TONIGHT – APRIL 19

NHL Live, hosted by Liam McHugh, with analysts Keith Jones and Jeremy Roenick, begins at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Dave Briggs and Anson Carter will anchor USA Network’s studio coverage.

GAME 4 – (2) LIGHTNING AT (3) RED WINGS – 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN – LIGHTNING LEAD 2-1

The Red Wings host the Lightning in Game 4 of their series in search of their second consecutive win on home ice to even the series at two games apiece. After dropping the first two games of the series in Tampa, Petr Mrazek made his first start in net for Detroit since March 29 and stopped all 16 shots he faced, while Andreas Athanasiou and Henrik Zetterberg scored in a 2-0 victory on Sunday night. Including the regular season, the home team has won all seven games in this matchup this season.

GAME 3 – (2) PENGUINS AT (3) N.Y. RANGERS – 7 P.M. ET ON USA NETWORK – SERIES TIED 1-1

The Rangers host the Penguins in a pivotal Game 3 tonight at Madison Square Garden with the series tied at one game apiece. The Rangers evened the series with a 4-2 win in Game 2 on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, as Henrik Lundqvist made 29 saves and J.T. Miller added three assists for New York. This is the third consecutive postseason that the Penguins and Rangers have met, and in all three instances, the series have been tied 1-1.

GAME 4 – (2) BLUES AT (3) BLACKHAWKS – 9:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN – BLUES LEAD 2-1

The Blues took a 2-1 series lead against the Blackhawks with a 3-2 come-from-behind win on Sunday afternoon on NBC. The pivotal play came in the latter stages of the third period, as Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane was penalized for high-sticking, and Jaden Schwartz netted the eventual game-winner on the ensuing power play. St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliott set a playoff career-high with 44 saves in the victory. Chicago will look for three victories in the final four games of the series, and the Blackhawks are 43-14 in playoff games 4-7 under head coach Joel Quenneville.

GAME 3 – (1) DUCKS AT (WC1) PREDATORS – 9:30 P.M. ET ON USA NETWORK – PREDATORS LEAD 2-0

Nashville built a 2-0 series lead with a pair of 3-2 victories in Anaheim, including its Game 2 win on Sunday night, as Shea Weber scored the eventual game-winner on the power play late in the second period. Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne made 27 saves in each game to backstop Nashville to its 2-0 series lead. This is the first time the Predators have ever led a playoff series 2-0, and the Ducks have never won a playoff series when trailing 2-0 (0-6 all-time).

If tonight’s Lightning-Red Wings game on NBCSN runs past 9:45 p.m. ET into the start of Blues-Blackhawks, puck drop of Blues-Blackhawks will be shown live on NHL Network until Lightning-Red Wings has concluded. Blues-Blackhawks will return to NBCSN immediately following the conclusion of Lightning-Red Wings.

If tonight’s Penguins-Rangers game on USA Network runs past 9:45 p.m. ET into the start of Ducks-Predators, puck drop of Ducks-Predators will be shown live on NHL Network until Penguins-Rangers has concluded. Ducks-Predators will return to USA Network immediately following the conclusion of Penguins-Rangers.

STANLEY CUP PLAYOFF COVERAGE ON CABLE UP 13% VS. 2015

Through 16 games on NBCSN/USA Network/CNBC, NBC Sports Group’s first-round NHL Stanley Cup Playoff cable coverage has averaged 494,000 viewers, up 13% vs. the comparable period from the first round of the 2015 playoffs (438,000). Through last night, the first round on NBC Sports Live Extra has produced 391,000 uniques and 46 million minutes across all platforms, up 31% and 90%, respectively, vs. the same number of games in 2015.
